This is my first post here. I reshped my Akubra Cattleman!

I guess I couldn’t help but put the ‘cattleman’ in the Akubra Cattleman.

For context. I thought I loved the teardrop crown on the Cattleman until my order came and it didn’t sit on my head exactly how I wanted it to and it made my hair look like I wore a bucket after a few minutes. I wish I would’ve got the Kiandra but I thought I’d just do a reshape.

This is my first hat! How did I do? Any tips on smoothening out the rough bumps from the previous reshapes? I know this isn’t exactly a cattleman’s crease, Akubra calls it the ‘cigar shaped crown’ and I love the look of all those hats so this is my attempt to copy it with the low crown that this hat has available.

I love how it looks now! It doesn’t mess up my hair too even after hours of wear.

I gave mine away a few years ago, but wore it for a while in the existing factory crease that I had modified by raising the crown while keeping the same shape. This made it look better to me and allowed some space between my head and the crown, which I much prefer. I reshaped it when it was drying after having been completely soaked in a torrential downpour.

I've reshaped other my other Akubras by steaming them over a boiling kettle, first steaming the crown and pushing out to an open crown to smooth out the existing creases, then re-steaming briefly and shaping to the desired crease.

I did this after a month of owning it, but it still messed up my hair, I decided to completely just change the look of the crown as I think the teardrop shape didn't suit me anyway. Any idea how to deal with the small bumps left from the original shape?

I think the best way is to reshape it to an open crown, pulling it tight over a round bowl or similar if you don't have a block, to remove any bumps or creases. Then reshape it to a Cattleman only when it's a smooth open crown.

This is exactly what I did. I didn’t really want a cattleman crease, I wanted whatever was on the Kiandra.

I think the Cattleman is too low to achieve a proper looking cattleman’s crease

I think you're correct. I gave mine away because I came to dislike the low crown, and got bored of the Bran colour. I prefer the Snowy River for which I raised the existing teardrop, and of which I now own two, one in graphite and one in a now faded brown, both with grosgrain ribbon instead of the leather hatband (I bought them second hand).

It’s quite the learning process for each of us huh. I have a campdraft on the way and I plan to give that a cattleman’s crease at first. I think it looks beautiful with that crease, like the Open Road

Looks like you did a great job on the reshape! I've doctored a few that were crushed but never fully redone the crown like that. I think that looks much better than the original teardrop.

I don't know about your hair but the hat looks great!
