Any idea what Stetson called "service weight" was ?
The OR is "semi-Service Weight" and the Llano is "heavier service weight"
I guess I can kind of get an idea what they meant but I'm not sure I have read that particular nomenclature for it before.
Interesting.
I assume the "medium weight" of the Aristocrat was lighter ?
Ever owned and Aristocrat?

I haven’t thought that far ahead yet since finding this listing. It’s good to finally get away from the idea of unmarked OR’s though.
Those ads are great...have not seen that before. Is is catalog or newspaper?

And YES, not every hat with OR appointments is an OR, they had so many catalog models like the Deming and Southwest for example (though I am not sure either were ever offered in 7XCB) and several others.

The Southwest in RD

And there very much are 7XCB's marked as OR's......I know...I have one.

I could be wrong but I would rank the felt wgt from lightest to heaviest in this order. Let me know if you agree or not. I take the western dress wgt to be the lightest because it is a dress wgt & being a RE. I’ve not encountered this nomenclature before now either.

western dress wgt — Corral 5.5x2.75 RE
Semi service Wgt — OR 5.5x2.875
Medium wgt — Aristocrat 5.5x3
Heavier service wgt — Llano 5.75x3

I’m wondering if back in the day LEO’s (TX, NM, AZ) got a uniform allowance & if the Aristocrat & the Llano were the hats of choice, depending on the individual? Those choices would standardized the 3” BE brim, giving a .250” leeway in the height of the crown to accommodate the height of the officer, vehicle clearance, etc.

I don’t own a 7XCB that would be as old as 1949 - 1950. I should check to see if I own one with either Aristocrat or Llano specs, & if so then research to find out the yrs they were in production.

I do have a 100 that measures 2.625 RE campaign ribbon (the way I measure) x 5.5 without a mule kick, that could be similar to the Corral assuming the Corral was offered in a 100.

First, I would like to say how much I enjoyed reading this thread. Incredible hats. Hope to snag one for myself someday.
I have this coming for my wife.
Any idea as to the age. I was guessing 50s-60s? Will have more pictures in a couple days if needed.
Her first beaver hat. She’s very excited.

Your problem may be if or when she finds out about the different models the 7X CB was made in. The OR is a grail piece for many collectors and that’s a great one.
