These are perfect! And out of my price range. But I’m still amped to see they’re being made at all, and by Nicks! This is great.
Any idea why the shank is angled back like that?
No idea on the shank angle. However search for Nicks Boots on eBay, there are already some out there at a discount.

No more expensive than the average price of a new jacket from a japanese maker…….which is of course a ridiculous amount to spend on a jacket.
not really accurate, he is 1,6 - 2,2k, most rainbow country jackets are 1500, double helix even less

ofc real mccoy is an outlier

jackets use a lot more materials

and many of the japanese jackets are coming to us thru a middleman that takes a big cut, with tariffs as well.

Definitely more material. I don’t know which is a more complex process. The tariff middleman reason for price is irrelevant if at the end of the day the price is the price.

I just ordered a pair of Jim Green Workhorse Moc boots in their sand color Kudu leather.
I was waiting for a full grain offering that I liked, because I'm not really into nubuk type leathers.
I don't know if I was aware of this leather option before or not, but saw them in an email today and decided to go for it.

Got myself something special:

Luke x Bertl Collaboration boots.

Luke is the guy that makes 3cm thick belts for people like Jason Momoa. Bertl is a legendary one-person bootmaker in Munich. Bertl sourced the remainder of this "Rössler" leather from the legacy of an old tannery in Bavaria. Traditionally it has been used mainly for items requiering thick, extremely sturdy fabrics such as harnesses or some such.

I got to meet both of them at a tradeshow a while back and decided to trust the process. Boots have arrived this weekend and I couldn´t be happier.

The leather isn´t dyed at all. The colour comes from the tannage itself, and the hide has a very strong pullup with colour nuances all across the spectrum from yellow over cognac to a deeper shade of brown.

Fit is excellent and provides that unique "Bertl-feeling": you get a boot that looks and touches like a piece of solid granite, yet on your feet it feels as comfy as your favourite pair of sneakers.
