Yeah, all these replies kind of sum up my thoughts too. It's a 25-pair run, so not like it's going to be a standard issue model here. Heck, I even got a little self-conscious wearing a LW J-23 (studded from LW) and moved it along.

what's funny is they want to do the clothes that were originally 'counterculture' but as soon as something deviates from that small accepted range it's too much lol.

You really can't go wrong with a solid pair of Goodyear welted plain toe boots. I find that they balance out the bulk of a heavy leather or canvas jacket perfectly without looking too formal. Still trying to figure out what my next pair should be for the upcoming colder months, honestly.

Is anybody making a barefoot-ish workboot?

I don’t mean a super thin feel the ground sole, my concept is a wide, foot shaped forefoot that doesn’t squash your pinky toe in, and a no-heel, zero drop sole, but built traditionally.

Leather insole over cork or a fat slab of leather, and a lugged outsole, but no heel block.

So you wouldn’t be able to bend and role it up like a barefoot shoe, but it would let your toes splay naturally and keep your heel at the same height as your forefoot, and it wouldn’t have a shaped arch.

Quick Edit:
the closest I’ve found are Belleville Mini-Mils, and if anyone is looking for a similar type of boot to my above description, I can absolutely recommend them.
They have a different set of compromises than my “spec sheet” but if you’re looking for barefoot “BOOT” boots, they’re pretty awesome.

As a huge fan of barefoot footwear I've searched far and wide and the best thing I found has to be Texarado. I'd love a pair of those someday. Otherwise Nick's has a barefoot inspired model.

I suspect these will sell out quickly, but honestly I do not think they are for me. A bit "too much" for my taste. However maybe they are for your tastes? - Black & Brown models on offer

I actually really like these. Wouldn't stick out too much when worn up the trouserleg. An awful lot more $$$ than I could ever justify on boots, though.

I have wide feet and have a pair of 'Duckfeet' boots. Is a little drop but also a wide toe box....

Mine are the sheepskin lined model so for winter only... however they also have crepe soles which are terrible in the wet so they are really not that practical, which is a shame as I do find them super comfortable. I like the shape of them, not a fan of the zip but it does make them easy to get on and off.

Could be an interesting option with a more practical sole. I'm not normally a side zip fan either, but for Winter travel through the airport when it's too cold for loafers at destination....
