This is black, but the teacore makes it take on a brown-ish hue.

There is a very nice veg-tan in a cognac coloured brown as well. The add-on on the standard hides is substantial, but I got a pretty good deal via a local retailer.

I’ve read the upcharge to veg tan can be significant but hey, if your going you may as well go balls deep!

Well, judge for yourself:

- The Corsair in the standard cow/horse is EUR 1.658,- via LL webpage
- The veg-tan cow version arrives at a staggering EUR 2.346,-

I got the jacket (plus one inside pockets which would have been an extra ca. EUR 30) for EUR 1.999,-

The leather is really spectacular (assuming you are into a grainy vegetable tanned leather at all as opposed to the much more robust shiny chrome-tanned hides, LL is famous for) and easily en par with the kind of shinki hh, RMC or Freewheelers uses or have been using.
On the other hand, an extra of EUR 700 just for a "nice hide" is something else. Especially considering, that LL used to do really affordable jackets (the "European Schott"....).

Not really a jacket guy, but I've been wanting a decent, wearable leather jacket for a while, and this Indy jacket seemed like a solid pick at a good price. I'm going to have to take it to a leather guy and get the sleeves altered a bit, but I've never owned anything that wasn't custom made for me that didn't require sleeve alterations. Apparently guys my width aren't supposed to be my height.

Not sure what pictures you're supposed to take for this - and this isn't the right hat - still working on the hat lol.

Thanks for posting the fit pics. Length and body wise it fits you so much better than it ever did me. I agree about the sleeve alteration, very straight forward if you have a tailor or leather shop to take it too. I had sleeves on other Indy style jacket I had done and it was no problem. Just make sure you don't alter too short as the sleeves will shorten slightly as you wear and they wrinkle and crease a bit.

I very much share your sentiment that LL pricing has gone off charts in the past 10 years for what they once were.. I recall the day very well when they switched from their standard cowhide to horsehide being the new standard and the former standard cowhide suddenly being available only as an upgrade.. and from there on, priced just kept hiking. I was in London three times in the past 15 years.. visited their shop every time. The jackets are nice but they are not *that* nice to me. I always saw them on par with Schott, still do, but now their standard and frankly fairly underwhelming horsehide comes at the same price as a Schott in Shinki horsehide which is absurd, comically absurd to me. I used to restrain from buying a Lost Worlds because I felt it was too much money for the product and looked at Schott AS overpriced compared to competitors... Then Japanese brands somehow got away with selling jackets at the price of pre-owned cars and brands like Lewis Leathers and others using the momentum to raise their prices accordingly. Now Lost Worlds jackets start to look like a deal at 1800 USD and Schott is definitely the most underrated bang for the buck maker out there right now. Weird how things change. Not one LL jacket I have seen online or in person has ever given me the wow-effect of my first LW or - fun fact - the Schott 688 I just bought NOS for 600 EUR. Good for LL if they still sell jackets at this point, but in my very strong opinion, one of the most overvalued maker out there. I mean, @Tom71 at least got done right, his jacket looks and fits fantastic, but I sincerely feel terrible for that other nice lad who recently posted his LL and about everything about it was off - way too long, no taper in the body, terribly shaped sleeves, 5* could have barely done worse.. it is beyond me how a product like that leaves the factory of a company charging more than half a month's average salary (the average salary of a very wealthy Germany that is - for many members nation it probably is way more than that).

Ordered through Thurston Bros. to get their dark hickory Vancouver cowhide. Having spoken with Kim she said that Vanson's roma leather was inspired by the Vancouver cowhide so they could have a similar option in house. It is beautiful to behold.

My modifications for the jacket were changing the kidney panel to a single point style and adding the western yoke to give it a little extra flavor and I think Vanson really nailed the shape. Adding the shirt collar with a little extra volume I think pulls it all together.

Thrilled with the outcome. Vanson patterns and quality speak for themselves!

I actually agree with almost everything you say here.
Jacket prices in general have gone up to the point where even a LW looks like a bargain (that is as long as you don’t have any fancy customisation requests like sleeve alterations or a zipper that actually zips).

I also agree that Schott (and perhaps Vanson) are almost criminally underrated this side of the pond.

Only point where we differ is my strong and ongoing appreciation for LL. I believe they make one hell of jacket which really fills a niche that is otherwise empty. Clearly, the “wow-factor” is strong for me.

The US-made jackets are head and shoulders above the ones made overseas, and I think Schott should either sever the relationship with the EU stores or increase US-manufacturing capacity to the point they can support the inventory needed for the stores overseas. /rant

Here is their EU website with jackets listed...you can see from the pricing the jackets are not what the US website or stores offer. Schott in Europe is clearly aiming for a different audience separate from the one who seeks the world-class, premium jackets offered by the NJ factory/US-based stores and website.

My guess on this is that European customers are much more price-sensitive than Americans, who generally enjoy higher salaries and are less squeamish about a $1,300 or $2,000 jacket than a European might be. I say this as someone who frequently travels to Europe and has a reasonable handle on the marketplace there, particularly in FRA.

VERY sharp, very sophisticated jacket and look, awesome color. That leather is heavy and stiff - it will save you hours in the gym just walking around in it for the first few years. Add in all those other jackets you have who will be whispering (screaming?) for attention to be worn, and you have just complicated your life greatly LOL. You will suffer serious anxiety trying to decide "do I want to wear the new CXL and keep the break-in process going, or do I wear that 370/Duke which is like Joseph's Technicolor Dreamcoat - the most comfortable jacket ever...?"

It says the jackets are cut and sewn in CA, and one major vendor there with the ability to make a jacket of this obvious quality is Golden Bear in SF, off the top of my head. They are a very good manufacturer and have done a lot of collabs, so it could be them.

1942 Willis and Geiger M-422A tonight. Amazes me how good the goatskin is on this 84 year old jacket. Having all the information on the pilot it was issued to makes it that much sweeter.

Of course I am wearing this inside in the AC. So look forward to fall weather in a few months.
