Hi all! Long time no post. As soon as the heat hits my area, I have to say goodbye to all my leather. I really wish I lived in a place with perpetual autumn or early winter weather, just so I could enjoy my jackets every day.

Anyway, getting to the point: I picked up this burgundy cafe racer a few weeks ago. However, after a deep dive comparing its pattern and doing a reverse image search, I still haven't been able to ID the maker. This jacket has me totally baffled: it features a four-pocket design, Scovill zippers, no tags anywhere, and an olive green lining that looks a lot like what Schott used back in the day. My guess is that it's made of steerhide, but I could be wrong.

What do you think? Calling all cafe racer experts! I must say this style isn't usually my thing, I'm definitely a cross-zip fan, but I really wanted to give this one a chance. Thanks in advance!

So, I’m not a boot guy, but I understand bespoke.

I saw a post in the classifieds today that brought something interesting to my attention.

This bespoke boot maker with a 4.5 year waitlist - $2.6k for a pair, 100% due when you order, no refunds. If you change your mind your options are 1.) oh well or 2.) get someone to buy your spot.

I find this fascinating for a number of reasons.

1.) The most I would be willing to pay up front would be 50% to cover cost. The guy orders materials once a year in January, so maybe I would do 50% on order, remainder due 30 days prior to when the yearly order has to be made.

2.) I can’t imagine I would be willing to wait 4.5 years for any physical object. If I can live without it that long, I don’t need it.

3.) With a 4.5 year waitlist wouldn’t you almost be hoping people would back out?

4.) What if the guy gets eaten by a shark?

5.) What if a piano lands on my head?

6.) If you have a 4.5 year waitlist, supply and demand dictates you should raise your prices, does it not?

7.) inflation. Does the guy just take the hit on his profit margin when materials cost goes up 30% between customer order and when the yearly materials order is placed?

I just bought a real McCoy J-24 new fit leather jacket. I want to get a mouton collar, but can’t justify spending £400+ on a new one.

Any Chinese manufacturers which you would recommend, that would fit my jacket?

Water got onto this natural leather (?) Californian vintage jacket and left these oil stains. Anyone know what can be done to make this look better? I’m not gonna dye the jacket. Thanks

Just joined the forum and slowly working my way through all the amazing archives here. Quick question for the veterans: when you guys are layering under your heavier jackets during the dead of winter, do you usually prefer heavy wool knits, or does anyone use thick vintage-style athletic sweaters? Trying to figure out what breathes better under thick leather without bunching up.

Hard to tell from pictures.. if the jacket is from some hot and rainy climate country, it could very well be.. it is unusual spots for dirt stains or scuffs..
Exactly what I was thinking about the dirt stains or scuffs. Rain drop residue or stains would make more sense if there wasn't so much of it on the inner pannel.

Schott IS 674 MS Those were very popular back in the 80's. I believe they were introduced in the late 60's. I remember Kurt Russell wore one in the movie The Thing. Personally, love this so-called "bomber" jacket. Purchased my first Schott ($280) 184SM in 1983 in the gold lining. Got it stolen in Pamplona then, purchased another one and gave it to my good Italian friend in the late 80's. Back in the day, many bikers in Rome, where I was living, rode in them. I currently own Schott 684SM, a very similar, newer model with a removable liner and a mouton collar.
