Is there a horsehide that can approach lambskin in weight?

Hi everyone. As I mentioned in my other recent thread, I am back in the jacket market and am currently awaiting a lambskin 246 from Schott. I went to their store to try on several of their jackets, with weight being the most important issue. The 246 is perfect for what I am seeking as I've got two blown out shoulders and can no longer carry a FQHH piece for hours at a time like I did a few decades ago.

I understand that there are horsehide options in 2026 that did not exist 20 years ago when I was last engaged in getting a new piece; shinki, etc. horsehides that seem to be thinner and lighter than the FQHH armor common to motorcycle jackets.

Is there a horsehide that is comparable to lambskin in terms of weight, but retains the traditional high level of durability horsehide offers?

Johnson Leathers offered a 2.5 oz HH before..

Any hide can be skived down to any thickness really, you just need to find maker who will do it for you, Johnson Leather certainly being one of them.

Off the rack for order by click I can only think of Y2 who offer a line of very thin yet beautiful horsehide jackets..

Leather can be cut to whatever thickness. for example a2s are usually made with horsehide splits, so half thickness.

Yeah, the lighter horse you typically find A2s in would be close. Closest to lamb I've owned without it being lamb (lamb would be too fragile for my preferences) is not horse but goat. Can be as light as lamb, but significantly more durable.

I would love a goat jacket but this skin is very difficult to find as few major elite makers use it (Aero does). Decades ago, when Gibson-Barnes made a great Indy jacket made of goat, I grabbed one. The leather was thin/light with an amazing grain, sadly the jacket did not fit me well.

Horweens Pinnacle Horsehide available at Aero has a feel / drape not too dissimilar to that of lamb ( not quite as thin but very soft)
Yes, I saw this on their site and was considering ordering a sample. Do you think the other majors have access to something similiar?

Not sure but you're talking to Aero management there so he can answer any specific questions about their stuff.

I did not realize "Hide-n-seek" was an aero rep. The forum could maybe do a better job identifying company representatives.

Hide-n-seek, nice to meet you, I will contact Aero outside of this forum and further this conversation.

Wested do a goat too. Lighter than Aero's, but I really liked it in my Raiders jacket. Was great for a 'warm weather' leather, as light as I think I could realistically go while still not being fragile. Needs replaced now as it shrunk in the wardrobe somehow.
