R. & M. Wegener "Extra 9", possibly later 1950s. The Gray Felt has a great Smooth Finish and with contrasting black Bow and light gray Brim Binding. The overall quality and condition are excellent. I found this Homburg back in 2025.

Nice. :) I’ve noticed you seem to prefer crowns with a little more shape and taper to them rather than perfectly straight-walled crowns. Is that accurate?
Not necessarily. It's what I find these days in the hats (mostly vintage, if possible) I acquire. As I am now in Israel, away from most of my 200+ hats, I am only wearing the European style I acquire here (or from Europe). On the religious side, many of those hats do have a bit of taper to them, but the vintage styles (some of which will finally arrive here on Monday!) do not have it. I just love hats of all kinds with brims and crowns.

Surprisingly dry night and morning here. Have watched multiple storms on radar heading right here to out little wide spot in the road, only to see them dissipate into nothing when it hits out magic highway loop around town..... So.... the Akubras and raingear are still in the wall. Headed out to coffee and a hair trim under a modern Stetson Roadster B. I had enough snap brim hats, so I flattened the brim on this one into a swoop brim. Got rid of the cheap looking glued on skinny leather band and put a wider ribbon on.... better now. Someday Ill get a hat that gets left as-is lol

Open Road Thursday and a lead in to Memorial Day. Nice little embroardered liner 3x in a Long Oval. Still has the original $16 price tag inside the sweatband from Barrys Dept Store in Killeen Tx ( Ft Hood, Tx). I found this hat in a Cookeville Tn thrift store (The town that my Mothers family is from) The seller indicated it came from the estate of an local Army helicopter pilot that died in Viet Nam in 1967. Major Johnie Wright Jr.

With the condition of the hat, Im supposing he may have bought this hat just before deploying overseas and shipped his belongings home. My privilege to be its current caretaker.

Thoughts, remembrances, and prayers for those who gave it all on this Memorial Day weekend
