Weve been right at the freezing point the last several mornings, but of course we have ANOTHER cold front on top of things coming through late tomorrow and are now expecting mid 20s by sunday morning. ( at least it should be sunny and dry for a few days) Got the firepit wood handy, the generator test run, and have been gong through the wall to ID the warmest heavy hats Ive got... The Akubras like the Fed iv , Campdrafts, and Stylemasters are a no brainer, but Ive also got a few american hats like this Stetson Sovereign Firenze. nice dark charcoal color and wonderfully soft, heavy felt.... Of course, I also have several big Stetson, American, and Resistol westerns standing by, particularly if I need more wind buffering lol

Another very interesting hat, unfortunately far from my size

A very high-quality Italian hat made in the golden age of Barbisio in Sagliano Micca (Biella)
View attachment 762342
The Barbisio "Verelyte" measures 56 cm or 7 in the US.
View attachment 762343
The hat is lined, and the felt is lightweight, indicating its use in spring and autumn.
View attachment 762344
What fascinates me is the shape, very similar to hats from the 1930s, the full and imposing crown, although I doubt this one is that old.
View attachment 762345
The felt color is "Muschio - Moss Green", and these are the measurements: the raw brim is 5 cm, the ribbon is 2 cm, slightly contrasting with the rich green of the felt, and the lowest point of the crown is 9 cm.

The felt is lightweight and very shapeable.
For any inquiries let me know.
That is a VERY attractive hat, Daniele. Sorry it's the wrong size for you.

I have been enjoying this JBS 20 that I recived last year from @hambone71. This is a great little hat.

It has been a whirlwind of a week for me. First I want to thank everyone for their kind words about me getting back to work. I will catch up on this thread and reply to those remarks asap. I have said it before but it's worth repeating many times: this community really saw me through some challenging days the last few years. Thank you to all for making this such a vibrant place worth hanging out in.

I have a job offer with Schneider. My old company won't take me back because I am out of their hiring radius now, and Schneider has a refresher course they will send me through (and pay me) since I've been away for so long.

We'll see what I decide. I have a lot more research to do, but Schneider wants me to start at the beginning of February. So this happening fast.

Stay warm out there, hat lovers.

Wegener Charcoal Grey
5 1/4 Crown as shaped
2 3/4 raw edge brim
1 3/4 grosgrain gills ribbon

Once again we go to the Stefan @steur Magical Mystery Care Box from last year… and what a fine hat we come up with this time. At 2 3/4 this one certainly is not a stingy brim. The felt is a charcoal grey that seems to color shift depending on light from grey grey to brownish grey… I think I even saw it shifting to a dark green indoors and has a very smooth hand to it. The ribbon is a slight bit lighter blueish grey finished with gills. The inscription in German on the sweatband reads “Handgefertigter Haarhutim Naturprodukt” which roughly translates to “Handcrafted hair hat made from a natural material” apparently indicating it is of fur felt. I gave this one a good brushing and some steam to reshape the brim a bit and I think it came up quite nicely. Truth be told I’ve been enjoying wearing this one most of the past week, only getting the time to take photos today. I do not know how to judge age on Wegener… but I would guess it to be fairly modern. Thanks again to Stefan for sending along this beauty.

Stetson 3X Cowboy hat I restored as a wide brimmed fedora. Perfect for chasing the pup around in the snow. Technology doesn’t exist to capture his tail without the blur, lol.

First morning I’ve felt like getting out after a wk of the flu (or whatever is going around). Under my red liner VS Play*boy clone in BlueSmoke.

I feel like buying a top quality vintage hat to celebrate.
Great name for the colour, Bluesmoke. Clone or not it's a fabulous hat. Sorry you have been under the weather Jack, your symptoms echo my own, only mine was a reaction to the flu vaccine that I had at the doctor's surgery.

Today's hat was to be The Stetson Sovereign but the much lighter Gamble & ***n is my preferred choice. We are off out later, and given last night's heavy rain, today's sunshine may not last. Tina's advice to take an umbrella is most prudent. The edited asterisks simply hide the name of a device carried in a holster, but the name is spelt with a double N.

I'm gonna feel pretty overwhelmed trying to catch up on this thread, but my life has been hectic as all get out lately.

I have an offer to run flatbeds which I never considered before, so I'm spending tons of time looking into that possibility. Plus all the logistics of returning to being a full-time nomad and still working two other jobs.

Today I visited with family. Wore the Mallory Twenty again just because it's my favorite (edit: it's a Mallory Ten, but I like it so much it could be a Fifty!) .

Happy weekend to you, friends. I'm gonna dip in and out through the evening while I relax in front of the tube.
