Seymour, Missouri (1920). This clipping is common but I don’t remember it being posted on FL before. I came across it while researching the kills mentioned below.

In Dec 2010 a Missouri hunter shot what he thought was a coyote (no season, varmint) while deer hunting during bow season. Later when he was thru hunting for the day & went to collect the animal he thought it might be a gray wolf so he called the Missouri Dept of Conservation. MDOC claims they have not reintroduced wolves in the state. Most residents who spend time in the woods don’t believe that. Later MDOC would claim there DNA tests proved that it was a 104 lb coyote, not a wolf or a hybrid.

In Nov 2012 another Missouri hunter shot what MDOC said was proven by DNA to be an 81 lb coyote, again not a wolf or a hybrid. MDOC kept the carcass & the hunter sued to get it back. Don’t know if his lawsuit was successful or not.

A typical male coyote in the wild in Missouri weighs 35 lbs, & a 40 lb male is rare. Prior to 2010 the US record for a male coyote in the wild was 74 lbs.
