A tribute to the Christmas color.

Mossant - Qualité Superieure, today on a cold day. It was below freezing at night.

The hat is described on the handwritten paper label as "Lievre Erable," or so I think.
Hare for the felt and maple for the color.

As always, Mossant hats with a short-haired finish are very soft. This is a relatively recent hat due to some details, such as the glued rather than sewn lining and a somewhat rushed attention to detail.
Regardless, the color is unique and the felt finish is superb.

Have a good day everyone, and welcome to the end-of-year hats.
Looks great on you. Happy New Year!

I love McClelland. Back when I still piped, their Classic Samsun was my FAVORITE OF ALL TIME!!! The Balkan Blue was great stuff as well.
The last few years with all the corporate buyouts and such, it seems like a bunch of my old favorites have dissappeared off the market. Ive been on a search for good replacements that most likely wont dissappear ever since. Thank goodness for the old standbys like 965 and Captain Black

Yes, nothing happened to JHS during WWII. It could be very early 1950s. This is an early post WWII transitional hat. The two hats belonged to a president of a college in Pennsylvania. Here is the other hat "TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour".

J. Hückel´s Söhne (JHS) Zephyr Seal Velour, size 7 3/8 (late 1930s) vs. TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour, size 7 3/8 (late 1940s early 1950s)

The older JHS Zephyr Seal Velour's (right side) Black felt, finish and hand are at a slightly higher level. Same with the sweatband and liner. The TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour is slightly lighter at 4.16 ounces vs. 4.40 ounces for the JHS Zephyr Seal Velour. Both have the same crown height (~ 6 inches) and brim width (~ 2.5 inches). They both have similar corrugated ventilation systems. The JHS Zephyr Seal Velour ribbon width is ~ 2 inches. The TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour ribbon width is ~ 1.5 inches. Both hats were made for the American market.
Steve, those Tonak Velours are gorgeous, so rich and lush. They do not make them like that anymore. That Lutra is extra special.

Happy New Year my friends! Sticking with the Stetson theme. My only hat purchase this fall. I had an ocasasion to be in New Haven Connecticut in September and visited Delmonico Hatter my first visit after using their mail order service over the years. As you know when you go to the hat store it's hard to leave without picking up something. They just happened to have this Stetson Temple in the color Congnac in my size.
