Hi,
i want to buy a new belt in natural color but i'm not 100% sure on which buckle to chose.

i already have a belt that i love from the same maker (small shop in florence), in dark brown with brass buckle:

it's 4mm thick and 35mm wide.

I want the same spec but in natural color and with solid brass buckle...but which buckle? I like a lot the buckle that i already have, but i prefer to change style.
in the photo below you can see the natural leather that i like, with the brass buckles (circled in red my first initial choice)

here the buckle with the belt in natural...i have to ask the maker if in this photo the buckle (that is for 35mm belt) is paired with a thinner belt (30/32mm) because to me seems too narrow the belt and i don't like that so much (remind me of a women's belt)...prefer a tighter buckle like the one in the first photo of my actual belt.

What do you expert think? which buckle style do you have for yours natural color belt?
I like also the top right buckle but don't know...

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks as always!

I’m not a huge fan of the squared buckle…But yours is nicer to my eye because is not “a perfect square” :)

The bottom one is the first that i discarded ahah, in your photo is beautiful but i don’t know if i like so squared.

The top right immediately caught me, but maybe i have to see something similar worn. Is so different beeing simmetrical, i can’t figured out. But i love it in the picture alone.

In your opinion the top right one can be used also with summer pants, that are lighter? Maybe linen pants? Or it can be too much?

Thank you!

Curves are easier to the eyes than sharp/perpendicular angles like in squares. Smaller buckles are also easier to the eyes than large buckles (too popping, too in-your-face).

The top right is a bit large for a casual outfit like summer, where there is usually less clothes/ fabrics shown. The most appropriate for summer is actually the belt buckle you have already owned, which is the smallest out of the bunch.

Personally I like the very bottom the most but you have already ruled that out.

I'd pair a buckle like Mr Proper's with jeans. For slimmer belt to go with slacks or dressier trousers, I'd go with something slimmer, sleeker. Any of the bottom five on the photo in the OP. Brass with earthtones and browns; brass or chrome with black leather. I used to go for antiqued brass, but these days I prefer natural, unlaquered brass which can age, or not, naturally.

Thanks. Yes i think that you are right and the curves is easyer to my eye. I have an old (and super cheap and commercial) belt with rectangular buckle that i can't wear anymore: maybe due to the fact that it isn't well made, or maybe i'm tired of that belt...but for that reason the squared buckle don't catch my eye.

my actual belt is super versatile because is simple and small: i'm super happy with it and i like it a lot.

I've been thinking about this a lot over the past few days and have seen a lot of pictures of belts. I notice that every time I was dwelling on the top right one...It always caught my attention, but I thought it was too big for me...so almost decided for that rounded one circle in red in my first post...i wasn't 100% convinced so i came for help. I also received another photo with a right size belt, and in that case is nice but especially with dark brown leather (at least to my eye)...with natural color i don't know, there is something that doesn't convince me 100%.

i like all of that, can't say that one is ugly...then @MrProper made me think again of the top right and it stayed in my head...

Long story short, today i ended up choosing the top right one. it's completely different from my actual belt and, like you said, less versatile...but i can't resist ahah

Maybe in summer with super light pants is too much, but in that case i can use my actual one.

Now i hope i like it! I'll go to the store to pick it up at the end of the month.

Thanks also for your thoughts! Much appreciated

Hi, here is the new belt…already use it at least 15/20 times…just to give you an update.

I’m very happy with the result. Thank you @MrProper to “convinced“ me on this buckle :) i have to take a photo in the sunlight…

Happy holidays!

The one that is on the belt ( far left) is by far the best. The buckle needs to have square corners where it contacts the leather to lay flat. Curved inside corners distort the leather and never lay flat. Another bonus for the buckle on the belt is it eliminates the ugly leather keeper. This gives an elevated appearance by keeping the balanced look of the belt loops on the pants and not having a random extra leather loop on the left side. My 2nd choice would be the one Mr. Proper displays. A distant 3rd would be the bottom buckle.

I know what you mean. This last buckle has a little curve and the extreme edges of the belt have a bit of compression. But the belt remain flat…it’s just a little bit.

The first buckle that I’m interesting from is a lot more round and i have seen in person that has the problem that you mention, clearly visible.

For sure the one on the belt (squared, your favorite one) is almost perfect design in that aspect and the belt remain more adherent to the pant. But i don’t love that design aesthetically speaking :)

I like a lot the one I chose, even if the belt in the front remain more separated from the pant.

Thank you for your point of view…I hadn't thought about these things before seeing live the rounder one. Now i’ll do more attention on that ;)
