Thanks for your perspective — I’ll definitely share an updated video once the jacket comes back from the tailor. I’m genuinely curious myself to see how the changes affect the fit.

Since most of my jackets in size L fit very well, I assumed the same would apply here. Turns out the 519 fits quite differently, which actually makes this post more valuable for others considering this model.

I'm not trying to sell anything or push a look — just sharing honest impressions to help others make better-informed choices. If my experience helps someone avoid a similar misstep, that's a win in my book.

Yeah, why ruin a jacket like that? The jacket fits you - Just that it doesn't fit you the way you intended which isn't what alterations are for. Just sell it if you don't like it. You'll sell it anyway, eventually, as no alteration is going to change your mind.
It never does.

I wanted to share my thoughts on the Schott 519 in Brown (Size L) and how it fits compared to other Schott jackets I own. Over the years, I have built a collection of Schott jackets, including:

• Schott 626 in L
• Schott 689H in 42
• Schott Perfecto 1 in M
• Schott 740C in 42
• Schott 118 in 42
• Schott 141 in 42
• Schott 570 in L
• And now, finally, my dream jacket: the Schott 519 in L (Brown, Factory Sale)

I always trusted Schott NYC’s online size guide, which worked well for my 626 in L, but unfortunately, the 519 in L turned out to be larger than expected. It has an amazing fit and finish, but I believe an M would have been a better choice for me. The cost of alterations in my area is quite high (around €400), so I’m currently figuring out the best solution.


I have started creating content on YouTube, TikTok, and Instagram to help others find their perfect Schott jacket size and see how these fantastic jackets look in real life, especially since it's difficult to try them on in stores here in Germany. Actually, it was definitely worth it for me – I had it professionally tailored and the result turned out great!
Here’s the update if you’re curious:

Sometimes it’s worth giving a great jacket a second chance instead of selling it.

Hahaha of course not!
I kept the tags on at first because I was considering selling it if it didn’t work out.
But after getting it tailored and finally being happy with the fit, the tags are off now!

I totally get where you're coming from – but in this case, it actually worked out really well after the small alteration.

1 . Can you list the alterations that were done including how large the change was in cm?
2 . What was the approximate price for the alteration?
3 . Could you post some stills / photos in the same poses of the before and after shots side by side so that we can see more clearly?
4 . Perhaps you could also take the same poses under the same conditions with your other existing Schott jackets that fit you very well in your opinion next to pre and post alteration shorts? Then we can see how this jacket compares to other stock Schott models in the same size to this jacket pre and post alteration. Curious how close the alteration got this model to non-altered well fitting stock ones.

The shop shaved the sleeve off at the top, at the shoulders, from what I can see. The cuff hasn't been altered. They do fit better. They also narrowed the shoulders slightly. A lot of work, all in all.

The jacket fits better but imo still far too long on you,much better it was sold and let you find a jacket that worked Again just my opinion, I'm glad it's worked for you.

Here's the info you asked for:

1. Alterations:

• Shortened the sleeves
• Brought the shoulders in slightly
• Tightened the chest by about 1.5 cm
  (No changes to the back length – I wanted to keep that stock.)

1. Price:
   Around 230€ total for everything. Took about 10 days to get it back.
2. Before/After comparison:
   I actually made a full video showing the before and after – it's easier to see the difference in movement and proportions that way. You can watch it here:
3. Comparison with other Schott jackets:
   That’s a great idea. I'm thinking about making a follow-up video soon comparing the altered 519 with my stock 118, 626, and 689H to show how close the fit is now compared to unaltered models.
