$1750 to import this jacket in the USA so I'm hesitant to be the guinea pig on this one. I'd love to find a used one though and with my hips and rear end, the design and flare at the bottom will actually sit well on me.

Hi Guys,
Has anyone grabbed this yet?
such a cool design
Do you think it might work for my body shape?
I have 18.5 inch shoulders, 41 inch chest, 34/5 inch waist...
Unfortunately I'll never get to see this in person being from New Zealand, with approximately 3 people being interested in decent leather jackets:)

sry to necro an old thread... but did any other people get this jacket that fit them well? or did ELMC ever revamp the pattern for this jacket?

I came in contact with a guy on Instagram who owns one and it looks absolutely amazing on him.

I still think about this jacket every now and then, wondering whether or not I should just order a size 42. It'll look better when worn with straight fit jeans as opposed to the slim fit jeans I was wearing back then.

But then I see my 80s CHP (which has a much smaller opening than the ELMC) and I realize the Highway star pattern just isn't for me. It looks great on others though.

Thanks, I wish it was possible to try this one out (but US stockists don't seem to have it). Based on the thread, sounds like the ELMC quoted measurements aren't reliable either.

Did anyone ever pick up one of these?

Reviewing this thread, it makes me realize why most CHP's, straight or cross-zip, have the side laces. Then the fit and taper become a non-issue. Maybe ELMC will add this option?

I've been watching for it since it was announced, but I've never seen one listed on ebay, and only one or two people here have ever tried one on in the store or bought one. I keep my eyes open for it but it seems to be much less common than the Freewheelers Mulholland. Which is itself not that common.

I got one back in April – usually wear a 38, but the shop in Zurich where I got it recommended sizing up to a 40 (consistent with what other folks have reported with this and the Californian from ELMC). Love the style of the jacket and the lightness of the leather itself, but it is indeed a little boxy, and the sleeves are maybe a little too roomy for my skinny arms. Waiting for some cooler weather to be able to layer with it properly.

Thanks for this update. Please take fit photos of it on you and share them on here if you are comfortable doing so, it would really help those of us still thinking about this jacket.

I think it's discussed somewhere else in this thread, but the body of the jacket looks like it has a bit of an hourglass shape, flaring out towards the bottom hem. Probably unflattering save for very specific body types.

I just got one bnwt, pre-owned but supposedly only tried on indoors.

I was surprised because the seller had been clearly trying on the jacket with the side tabs taken in, so I asked for pics with measuring tape across the hem both with and without the tabs taken in, as well as across the top of the belt and mid torso, along with the rest of the usual measurements.

On one hand I could see it’s possible to use the side tabs without it looking terrible, he had one done that looked clean and the other was messy, idk what he did differently but one looked pretty good, otoh I also saw that it’s relatively easy to somehow make it work with the tabs done, either by massaging the leather into position, or by putting a small gusset type triangle panel where the side seam joins the top of the belt, above where the belt panels separate, which could provide even further adjustment by relocating the buttons.

The other thing I noticed is that the torso tapers aprox 2-2.5” from pits to top of belt, then with side tabs undone flairs out aprox 1” to the hem, and with the tabs done it stays in line from top to bottom of belt, the belt looked close to 4” tall and these measurements are from a sz 36.

I will confirm or retract this statement once I receive it, I’ll also compare it side to side with a mulholland.

I just got a good deal on one that’s bnwt, it’s pre-owned but supposedly only tried on indoors.

Before I bought it I asked the seller for fit pics with stats, and pics with a measuring tape.

First I was surprised because the seller had been clearly trying on the jacket with the side tabs taken in, so I asked for pics with measuring tape across the hem both with and without the tabs taken in, as well as across the top of the belt and mid torso, along with the rest of the usual measurements.

On one hand I could see it’s possible to use the side tabs and not have it look terrible, he had one done that looked very clean and the other was messy, idk if he massaged one for a bit or if he folded it but it looked good, otoh I also saw that it’s relatively easy to make it work, either by massaging the leather into position, or by adding a small gusset type triangle where the side seam joins the top of the belt, above where the belt panels separate.

The other thing I noticed is that the body shape tapers from pits to top of belt, then with side tabs undone flairs out to the hem, and with the tabs done it stays in line from top to bottom of belt, the belt is close to 4” tall btw.

What size did you get?

I saw that jacket show up on ebay, and it's the very first time I have seen a used Highway Star for sale. I've been watching since they came out. Either they don't sell many or the people who buy them love them. Possibly both.

I for one, am extremely interested to see how he managed this. I've not been able to get mine to look quite right. Will get some fit pics of me wearing it later this week now that the weather has finally cooled off a bit.

Ok guys here goes.

I found it pretty easy to do the tabs and ended up getting around 4” of taper from pits to hem on the sz 36, which is pretty much the same I was able to get from the sz 34 mulholland.

They’re both around 19.5” p2p and very similar in measurements and shape, main differences are slightly smaller shoulders and longer sleeves on the highway star and the mulholland has a more linear taper whereas the highway star is a bit more subtle at first and more pronounced nearing the top of the belt, the highway star also has wider cuffs, too wide imho, and a slightly longer back but a shorter front drop vs the mulholland, and the belt on the highway star is actually around 3.5” tall vs 3” on the mulholland, so the pockets sit just a bit higher on the highway star too.

So the body taper goes from around 19.5” down to around 15.5”, and that’s pulling on the tabs to minimize the eyelet slack, that’s 4” max taper from pits to hem on a sz 36, if I let the tabs sit naturally with the eyelet slack, then the hem is around 16” and taper goes down to around 3.5”.

Putting the tabs back on the first buttons takes the hem back up to around 18” but the top of the belt stays around 17” so you get that slight flair towards the hem.

If I just switch buttons, without applying a fold on the side, the hem goes down to 17”, so it stays around 17” from top to bottom of the belt but the leather bunches pretty bad, if I massage the sides and fold them properly the whole belt goes down to around 16”, and if I pull on the eyelets slack the hem goes down to 15.5”.

The leather is outstanding, mid weight, hefty with lots of character, good smell but not too strong, feels smooth, kinda oily and very malleable which helped enormously massaging the side panels into place to do the tabs.

I got the cuffs going too because they’re huge on the first button, a little more massaging and those are gonna look great as well, and the lining feels silky smooth but surprisingly fresh, which is great for my local weather.

I don’t think I need to cut into anything here, at most I’ll just move the first button slightly passed the second, because the eyelet has a lot of extra room, and I’d rather have it as cinched as possible.

I think once it molds to my body, and gets more drape, it’s gonna fit perfect.

THANK YOU -- for being one of the first to supply good fit photos of this "mystery" jacket. :) I know Marc did some too, but it's amazing how many people are just wanting to see it on a real person, and not just a quick "shop" photo.

I think it looks great on you, and you should really enjoy it. I may just have to snag one of these in a few months.
