Anybody talk to or hear from Ed, @Desert dog lately??
No response to PM’s.

It’s been a bit. Ed said he was busy with his leather projects and with the demise of Tapatalk he hasn’t been posting much.

TMI!!!

Yeah, sorry about that. Wrong thread anyway.

I'll see myself out.

I really need to be back sir! I keep trying to find reasons to leave the house so I can wear a different hat. The wife worries about me...

[Bamaboots]

Man, another great embroidered liner Greg. Great looking condition.

Another beauty Greg! Congrats!

Looks virtually unworn these past 70 yrs. Another great one, BB!

Looks like you just drove it off the showroom floor, Greg.

Thanks a lot fellas. Maybe the ‘newest’ old hat that I have. Very pleased with it.

[Just A Hat Rack]

TMI!!!

He must have googled "**** hats" again.

[William Thee]

Picked these up at an estate sale. They are in immaculate condition...not sure if they were ever worn.

Crofut and Knapp Milan Braid Straw

This hat was one of the three hats that arrived crammed in a coffee carton

stingy brim grey-tan Milan braid straw with a very cool blue pug

[Rmccamey]

Gotta love the C&K's Joe. I'll have to pull mine out if it gets any warmer around here.

I’m really liking these two. Definitely fit the bill here in Florida. My guess on these would be late 60’s early 70’s partially based on the Champ that came along with them I’m not sure how well this old straw will hold up to heavy use.. but they have been great so far... and I’m sure a bit of glue and some type of patch inside will take care of and braids separating

Looks like you're doing pretty good on the Straw collection. I need to get on the stick.....

Thanks, Jim.

He's definitely getting to be the main enabler to go to State side. He's the USA's answer to the Dutchman

Competition: I like a challenge!
Great looking hats by the way.

The first of a two hat haul that came in last week.

The Mallory Ten

View attachment 220627

The Mallory Ten with a 3 1/2 inch pork pie bash.
Tan felt
2 1/2 inch brim with 1/4 inch tan grosgrain binding
1 7/8 brown ribbon
1 1/2 sweat in great condition
Size 6 3/4

I realized that these hats I wear many of which are much older then I may have stories of their previous owners. And started trying to get some of that story when possible.

Both of these hats were very small at 6 3/4 but since the seller made me a wonderful deal for both hats and the story of her Great Grandfather to whom they belonged I decided to take a chance on them.

Her great grandfather the original owner of these hats was a Chief of Police in Poland during WWII. A Holocaust survivor and hero who saved the lives of many. He hid in an attic for two years with only a bible. Spoke 7 languages. A very tough man who lived to 88 years old.

By some small miracle both of these 6 3/4 hats fit just wonderfully. Apparently this tough old survivor was cramming his about size 7 head into these 6 3/4 hats for decades. I am proud to now own them and will wear them with honor

Great story and always a plus when a hat comes with one. Not overly fond of the porkpie crease myself, but it is something different to try.

I think it's a fantastic hat, Brent, and proof that shorter brim doesn't automatically mean that a hat looks stingy.

[steur]

I like that color Stefan, I have an Amiata as well with what looks like the same ribbon color. I believe the C. Nizza on the tag ?

Thanks, Tim. Yes, the "nizza" is the ribbon colour. Doesn't exist as a felt colour.

[steur]

Randall tipped me off to this one on ebay thinking it would make a nice conversion. The pictures didn't do it justice however, and I don't think I want to mess with it now. Absolutely pristine and new looking Cavanagh Homburg with the 'John Cavanagh' liner putting it between 1936 and 1951 and with the tag indicating 40's. Just perfect condition and the liner is bright white compared to a little bit newer Cavanagh I have that has yellowed. Wonderful felt. I got it out of the freezer last night and did a few different bashes after steaming and brushing.

No outside pics since it won't stop raining around here.

Unbashed:

Great catch, Tim. One of my favourite colour combinations. The hats works every way you've shown (and probably a few more).
