Well, my Whippet arrived. The felt is in fine vintage condition as is the binding, ribbon, and liner. The sweatband feels reasonably supple and tolerated me turning it inside out without issue. The Reed is broken and along with the expected verdigris the wire is protruding. The open crown is approximately 5 3/8 inches and the brim is a modest 2 3/8 inches wide. For some reason the tags have been penciled over. The factory printing is 7 1/8, and that’s also what it measures on my milliner’s tool. I suspect that this hat will end up in Japan as my last two Whippets have.

Some nice finds you've got there, Brent. Have to admit I'm not a huge fan of the Whippet style myself, so I cannot understand why these would fetch these insane prices as opposed to other (and in my view much nicer) hats.

Our esteemed member Randy @Rmccamey found this Churchill hat, which wasn't in his size and he thought of me (bless him). A Churchill hat was lacking in my collection, so we were set up for an exchange.
Here's the Churchill beaver 50. Silverbelly I guess, which seems to vary between light grey and beige with some green (yikes!) tones in there, depending on the light. Quite stiff but easily moldable. I don't own an Open Road, but this is what I would imagine they'd be.
The hand of the felt is what really makes this hat; it's exceptionally smooth and lovely to the touch. Not a thick felt, but certainly not a lightweight hat at 131 grams. The brim binding is well done and very thin (the way I like it) and the sweatband is sturdy but supple. The liner is a glorious wine red. I'm guessing 1950's, but that's just a stab in the dark really. Brim at 7cm and crown 10,5cm at the center dent.

Call me a purist, but I believe a Silverbelly should be worn brim up. Actually, I didn't realize you could wear them brim down, but that's perhaps just my ignorance.
You do look dapper with it down, though.

4 1/2 crown in cattleman’s crease

1/4 thin ribbon light tan

2 3/4 brim with 1/8 matching bound edge.

1 3/4 brown leather sweat

This one arrived a couple weeks back. This is the buck and a quarter Stetson. Not $125.. one dollar and twenty five cents was the end of auction price. It has definitely seen some wear in its life as evidenced by the sweat staining around the ribbon and wear on the sweatband. But other than that it is in very good shape

Most of the gold embossment other than than the 6x logo has worn off the sweat band. But Model number SFOPRD and other Open Road indications like bound edge leave me assuming this is a fairly modern Open Road model.

Judging by info from the seller whose father was the original owner and some details of the hat itself like the UPC on the label. I’m gonna guess this one to be early 90’s or late 80’s. The seller thought it was much older still... but that’s my guess. Any thoughts here?

But my question really is brim up or down on this one?

I think maybe my brain has gone into melt down mode being semi isolated, but after having replied to Joe's post I had a cross between a duh and a Ha-ah moment.

Firstly, I'd forgotten to look at Joe's crease in the second picture, just the brim. So I thought, you can't wear brim down with a cattleman's. Then I remembered, I have two Open Roads. One from Randall, the other from Bob. They're both Open Road Silverbellies, right?
So, is it just a question of how you make the crease that turns the hat into a whole new type of hat, Fedora contra Western? Or are they two different types of hat?

My brain melt down continues.

Steve, I laughed. I was sure you were talking about a cattleman crease when you were referring to the brim up, which is more traditional with that crease and one I prefer. Which is a good look on you.

For me I’ve found on some of my wider brim hats what works sometimes is brim snapped up... but tugged down in front. Doesn’t always work.. but when it does

No worries my friend.. No sweat off my back... or brow... as it were. I think I had said in my post... the question is brim up or down? Pssst... There are no rules anyhow.. it’s all made up.

As for the muddled head... I said this the other day...

We all have walked into a room and said why did I come in here? It only starts to be a problem when you walk into a room and say.. Who AM I... And why did I come in here?
