I finally found out that it was a 1930s Hawthorne bicycle that James Dean rode
as a kid in Indiana.

Dean was in Marfa, Texas for Giant. But I was too young and
Davy Crockett (Fess Parker) was the rage for us kids.

Saw Fess Parker & Buddy Ebsen in person at the Majestic Theater
in San Antonio for the premier of the movie.
Ballad of Davy Crockett was a big hit on the AM radio.

I remember Buddy was the first on stage. And his first thoughts was explaining and joking
about how he had just been shot at the end of the movie and yet here he was with us .
I believe Fess Parker attempted to sing a song.
And I never got that coons cap like Davy.
Mom tried to convince me that they were made from cats that died from a bad disease.

My condolences Bob.

Someone which I didn't know very well came up to me
at a funeral and said I needed to trim my hair a bit.
My hair is not long at all but apparently not short enough
for this person.

Perhaps it was the situation and I wasn't in the mood.
So I told him.
"For sure, I'll trim it as soon as possible for your funeral!"
I didn't say it loud or in anger,
I just said it.
His grin turned into a frown as he walked away.

And then there are the full color ads on slick (and thick) paper stock featuring photos of the family of undertakers who wish for me to come in for "pre-planning," for my peace of mind and that of my loved ones.

Turn me into Soylent Green, please.

It's been at least 10 years now that I've found in my mailbox the occasional solicitation from funeral homes and the like. "Funeral Alternatives" is apparently a cut-rate cremation service. And then there are the full color ads on slick (and thick) paper stock featuring photos of the family of undertakers who wish for me to come in for "pre-planning," for my peace of mind and that of my loved ones.

Those slick and thick paper stock comes in real handy for placing on my desk when I'm
working on oil paintings or cleaning up the internal brake gears on my bicycles.

I already made plans to be buried in my yard holding in the palm of my
hands a tree seed so that I can come back as a tree and the neighborhood
dogs & cats can have a place to do their thing.

The way I see it....we are just, "caretakers".

I'm writing something inside this truck so that who ever drives it in the future will know that once there was
someone from the past known as 2jakes who had a grand time riding it.

The native Americans used to say " Only the rocks live forever" but even those turn to dust eventually. Prehaps things including life, only have significance because of their temporary nature. I think we all take a lot of things for granted & being reminded from time to time that everything has an end, helps us to take notice of the things we care about around us.......even if the sentiment is only temporary.
