All well here in London. My job (I'm a university lecturer.... I think my equivalent is an Assisant Professor in the US system) has pretty much just carried on as "normal" with the exception I've been doing it all online. I'm just at the end of a week teaching students in Beijing - normally I'd have gone out there, but this year I've been doing it all online. Mostly pre-recorded lectures, with a live tutorial tomorrow morning for me (late afternoon for them).

As someone who has always preferred to work in the office for the most part, I've converted to worknig at home fairly well - the only problem is I really struggle to separate home and work life; I'm intending not to work this weekend, the only weekend I'll have taken entirely off since, I think, the Easter weekend (which was a first for some time also). I need to get a grip on that, as this is going to be my new normal for some time to come. Interestingly, I don't mind the lockdown - I guess if it was only me (my other half is on a list of vulnerable persons, so I am currently living as if I am too so as not to take any risks with her health) I'd be in serious FOMO territory, but this mass shut down I'm dealing with pretty well. The biggest problem here in London has been conflicting, vague and often absent official advice/instructions / basic information. But we're getting there.

I have noticed that since all we're buying, really, is groceries, we've saved quite a lot of money, so there may be a new hat or two come Autumn... Maybe I'll dream up some new bash and dub it the Coronoa Crown.

We are good here. The virus was well contained. In our province of 5 million we have had 165 deaths and this phase at least is running out. One protest of a few thousand people but peaceful. Everything is opening up albeit under the new rules of reduced capacity. No large gatherings (unless you are protesting!). Restaurants are still struggling as folks are staying home. The part I fear is the economic damage runs deep and we won't see the real damage for a few months yet. Many stores/restaurants have not bothered to reopen. The cruise ship season has been cancelled with boats banned from our docks. This is a huge $$ generator and the tourist sector will be gutted from its loss. As usual it is those at the bottom of the economic pile that are hurt the most. Salaried folk have come out of it in good shape largely but the hourly wage folk hurt really badly.

Hi Mark, my wife and I have certainly experienced the difficulties caused by this plague, in the best way possible, almost. Two or three weeks ago her leg started to swell up, alarmingly, she has a history of something known as, phlebitis. It's a condition that can cause such swelling and the problem being that it can lead to thrombosis, very dangerous indeed.

We knew our doctor's surgery was closed to the walking wounded, going to the A & E, (accident & emergency) at a hospital was out of the question, so what to do? Sometimes the old fashioned ways are the best, I hand wrote a letter to our doctor, outling the symptoms, adding my wife's concern over thrombosis and posted it at the surgery. My missus had a phone call from her doctor the next day. Doctor explained that three surgeries had joined forces temporarily so that one surgery was given over to potential covid 19 patients, the other two dealt with other emergencies, Doctor added that my wife had an appointment the next day at one of those other surgeries.

The next day she was examined, she had to wait her turn by staying in the car, her car registration number had been noted and sure enough someone came out, dressed in full protection, to call her in for her examination and blood test. Later that day the phlebotomy department of the hospital called her to attend an appointment with them. They told her that she would follow a similar procedure as with the doctor. She was to stay in her car until someone came out and called her in.

She attended that appointment the following morning, everything went as planned. She was re-examined, a further blood test taken, then following those results, she had an MRI scan. The scan showed that there was no thrombotic risk, had it shown positive she would have been admitted to hospital straight away.

The alarm over, and back at home, she sent a thank you card to our doctor. The doctor then phoned and after speaking together for a while, concluded that my missus has probably got some sort of cartilage damage. That makes sense given that my missus had a knee replacement on the other leg not long after retiring. She now has the swollen leg strapped up, some medication that doctor prescribed has caused the swelling to recede and when, in due course, the walking wounded can be treated, she will have correction surgery.

In conclusion, my wife was a paramedic for thirty years, she answered the call for retired NHS staff to help out, her previous knee replacement ruled her out of returning to work, but had she been able to, she would have had my blessing, risk or not. And as for her excellent medical care in investigating the swelling in her leg, we both agree that it's amazing how quickly things get done when you don't have to get past the ogre of the doctor's receptionist.

We’re experiencing a global “master reset!“ I feel as though the planet is undergoing a worldwide natural forest fire, and WE are the trees. My mother’s Neurologist told me the ill-effects that JUST the seclusion has had on her patients has been devastating.

Many, many downsides to all this, but there have also been positive effects, especially where people have “holed-up” as a family, as happened to me.

From a global perspective, if the events leading up to and apparently exacerbating the pandemic didn’t lay bare the Chinese government’s mean-spirited disregard for me and you, nothing will.

In the last 3 months I have been to Costco 3 times....each time buying Kirkland TP. I figure we are good for a year now so promised my wife I would not buy any more......but a year and 3 months supply would be safer is my response.....she is unconvinced......I hope I am not proven right on this.

To all the toilet paper hoarders: if you need 144 rolls of it to quarantine for two or three weeks, you probably needed to see a doctor BEFORE all this happened!!

Our forest industry is largely shutdown and there are predictions that there is an coming shortage of TP that will be legit this time due to the shortage of wood chips. The paper mill just down the road from us relies on wood chips from the lumber mills that are not cutting lumber these days. I could end up being the brilliant one....selling TP one roll at a time out the trunk of my car.....or I wonder how many rolls I can stash under my trench coat...."Hey, wanna buy a roll of...……?"
