Is it really possible to find a brown Schott B-3 in bigger sizes (44–46) for 200–300 USD?

In my experience, no. In smaller sizes from Japan maybe and I would still say more towards 300-500.

Sorry, it seams i have not adjusted my inner prices for inflation!
I had no idea a new Schott B3 now cost 1690$! I bought mine new for 500$ a "few" years ago...

It seems like even 5 years ago you could find B-3 on ebay for almost nothing.

IMHO, any simple "uninsulated" jacket, such as an A-2 or a G-1 can be comfortably worn well into cold temps, so long as sizing allows even a thin fleece "layering" garment to be worn inside the jacket.

That certainly depends greatly on individual sensitivity to heat. A normal leather jacket is too cold for me. And if I wear enough underneath to keep warm, a shearling jacket looks slim in comparison

Yes, certainly a matter of "personal preference/comfort".

It depends on where you are. Winter weather is different, everywhere. Where I live, I could certainly wear a wool Pendleton, with an A-2 leather jacket, and be fine. In cold climates, that would be a joke.


In a cold climates, you should layer. Wear a combination of different insulating layers. Your personal comfort will come down to breath-ability, wind-proofing, and waterproofing. You don't want to be hot and sweaty. But the wind shouldn't blow through. And you don't want to be wet.


Traditional silk, wool, goose down, and leather works. Modern textiles like Thinsulate, Gore-Tex, and such could be lighter weight and more comfortable.
