Who says kids have no ambition?

Wasn't Joan of Arc about 13 when she suited up in armor for battle?

And here's a bit of history about the Children's Crusade

As medieval knights couldn't seem to conquer and keep the Holy Land, in 1212 a precocious youngster from France named Stephen of Cloyes decided that maybe children could. Hey, if full-grown men with armor and swords couldn't do it, who better to dispatch the infidel Turks from Jerusalem than a rabble of defenseless, runny-nosed brats? Stephen managed to convince 15,000, or maybe 30,000, "of whom none were more than twelve years of age",

Again, I chalk this kind of thinking up to being an old soul, rather than mimicking of adults.

Senator Jack

Walmart is actually very dangerous to small business in America, and will be around the world.

As to the thread, I think it started as such a young person having so much hate. It doesn't matter who the hate is directed at... It's still hate.

Originally asked by James Powers:
So you're saying that Oprah, Walgreens, Walmart and Coca Cola are more dangerous to the US than Saddam Hussein, Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden?

I can't speak for Shamus, but I intepreted his point figuratively and not literally. It doesn't matter who the targets are, but if we would judge the boy differently if the targets happen to be our enemies; would he seem like such a psychopath? Of course the answer is 'no.'

Is Oprah an enemy? No. Is she a representative, or perhaps even a champion, of what some factions believe to be the enemy? Yes. I'm not going to get into all of that here, but let's just say that she's part of the Hollywood junk machine. She believes herself to be an intellectual but proves she isn't by being so far up Tom Cruise's backside that she can't be bothered to ask him about his 'religion' that bilks people out of billions - people that need real psychiatric help rather than tin can lie detectors. (read about e-meters for an understanding of this nonsense) This is only one example, but to my thinking, anyone who can't be bothered to get facts before presenting opinions to the world is dangerous. Especially when they have a lion's share of Neilsen ratings.

Is Wal-Mart dangerous? Well, let's get back to this discussion in twenty years when the last American manufacturer is forced to move to China. But that's another story.

Is Coca-Cola dangerous? Only to the lining of my stomach and the hood of my car.

Senator Jack

Have I just stepped into The Twilight Zone??

Is anyone here seriously defending the thoughts displayed by that 12 year old future murderer? I am rarely shocked by things but I think I read someone try to excuse this child's attitude, and am creeped out!

Any suggestion that it is more acceptable be the victim Thatcher, King George or Saddam Hussain is totally ridiculous! Keep in mind we are talking about a child here. Definitely not some "patriot". There are no 12 year old patriots, only brainwashed robots. As an aside, what are the chances of this child meeting up with some "enemy" for them to act out the parents hatred. All you are left with is a time bomb waiting to go off. Remember Columbine? Same deal here..

If anyone here is arguing otherwise, they probably do not have any children of their own. At least I hope they do not.. I would worry if they did. Children are sponges that absorb from their surroundings. Let us not avoid discussing irresponsible parenting by saying the child is a rebel or 'old soul'. A rebellious child is called a brat.
No parent worth a damn should want their child to speak that way about anyone.

The real tragedy of the Children's Crusade was that they mistakenly believed that it was God's will that the Holy Land be wrested away from the Turks. The first Crusade was a mindless mob that probably killed more Christians than they did Moslems. The second Crusade was seen as a demonstration of faith. That if the children had the faith to travel to Jerusalem that somehow God would miraculously deliver the city up to them. Of course, it was nothing more than fatal foolishness based on selfish politics, wishful thinking and bad propaganda.

Moving in the other direction, here's another interesting thought...

What if the same kid had done his essay but replaced the names with:

Billy from Science class
Uncle Al
Mrs. Johnson, the "mean" next door neighbor

Would he be dismissed as a harmless "old soul"... or hauled in before the principal and/or police to prevent another Colombine?

Exactly. Here is what becomes of "ambitious" 7th graders..
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060208/ap_on_re_us/gay_bar_shooting
BOSTON - The teenager accused of going on a rampage at a gay bar and later killing two people fatally shot himself in the head in a gunfight with Arkansas police, authorities said Tuesday.

Sounds like a young communist in training. :D

But, keep in mind, this kid is in the 7th grade! At that age you are a whole lot of talk and think you have the world figured out. Not that I'm saying it should be dismissed, but rather that it should be determined by qualified professionals if there are underlying issueswith this angst ridden child. Leave it to the secret service to be totally lost and really screw the kid up.

I have little faith in the secret service, but God save us from qualified professionals!

No, Billy and the teacher is a different scenario. I think you're trying to mix apples and oranges here.

And no, I'm not defending the kid's maniacal behavior, all I'm saying is that the targets are odd for a 12 year old. Perhaps the parents are anti-Bush and Walmart. Yeah, he could have absorbed that. But Oprah? Why? WHY? I should like to know his reason for including her on his list. What is it about the woman that irks him? (Even if it's as mundane as her show having bumped his favorite cartoon)

Anyway, you can call me spiritual, but I do believe that some people have been around before, and at an early age exhibit far more understanding of the human condition than others of their group. Hell, than most adults. You may not believe in that hokum, but when two old souls cross paths, there's a subtle affirmation of its very existence.

As a final point, funny how no one addressed my pointing out of Joan of Arc. After all, she was only 12 when she began to hear voices.

Unfortunatley there are a lot that are "qualified" by their little peice of paper but have no business working with people. There are a lot of misdiagnoses. There aer still some good ones out there...somewhere.;)

Okay, one thing I don't do around here is misquote other members, so I expect the same respect. I choose my words VERY carefully so others don't misconstrue or even misuse them.

I never made any claims of the kid being harmless, I just wondered what could have got into him. That's all.

I don't feel as though I misquoted your intent of the phrase "old soul" as "harmless" but if I did I sincerely apologize. I got a chuckle out of your original posting but truly think the kid deserves a spanking/rap on the mouth before he acts out against "Billy" instead of "Oprah" because she isn't readily available.

As to the apples and oranges comparison, as stated, I was taking Seamus' analogy of Saddam et al in the other direction. I really think the kid has anger issues. If he wants to fight the system, there are other ways of doing it. For instance, when another young man's high school held a "Coke Day" at school, he wore a Pepsi t-shirt to class as a protest. He didn't kill the Coke representative:

RE Senator Jack's post: "The government, the Waltons, the buffoons like Oprah, are on one side - the people who have had enough of this idiocy are on the other."

What on EARTH does this comment mean? Please elaborate, Jack.

This might be an echo of what several other people have collectively said, but it's the projected attitude rather than the words themselves that are frightening. Is this what America's kids are becoming? Spitting cobras? Spewing venom whenever given the chance?

I'd give a lot to know if the kid really does keep up with things, or if his parents or an extremely biased teacher are training him to hate. It takes prodding to get a kid to loathe something like that. I can understand Wal-Mart, I hate the place for mulitple reasons, but it's not worth getting incensed over the way he did. I didn't start making my own political decisions 'til I was fourteen, and when I did I pulled a near 180-degree turn in my views. Maybe I'm just slow, but I have a hard time believing that that schoolboy got to this point on his own.

No parent worth a damn should want their child to speak that way about anyone.

You actually stepped into the X-Files again. (Theme music begins)
The scene finds Scully and Mulder abducted into a cyber world where children are not responsible for their actions, adults are morons incapable of handling their children and the subsequent result is an up is down and down is up scenario.
Children and their parents are no longer afraid of terrorism and Osama Bin Laden. The terrorist of the month club is a going concern with trading cards and stuffed animals at a premium that cabbage patch dolls once enjoyed. Parents are also participating in the exchange student/terrorist Johnny Walker Lind program where parents send their children to live with a terrorist family while they entertain a terrorist of their own so they can better understand each other.
The parents and adults are afraid that the coke they drink will give them pimples that grow large and explode chunks of their face off. They fear Walmart and Walgreens are strapping explosives to the bottom of their shopping carts that will explode if they do not buy the most expensive products on the shelves. Walgreens is further feared to chop off people's heads slowly with a dull sword when they try to use the free bathrooms.
Big TV screens akin to those in 1984 intrude into their every private space playing Big Sister Oprah. Every house and apartment is constructed as to be completely visible through the two way Oprah screen. People must read what Oprah recommends. They must submit to her show.
Mulder has been staring too long into the large screen and the monotonous mind controling voice has taken control of his brain. "Lies are truth; truth is lies." Mulder says: "I love Big Sister and goes out to try to convince more children to believe that America is always wrong and authority is always wrong. Scully is seen as a Malcontent and thrown into the Soylent Green. (Theme music returns) Tune in for the next episode as we find people making excuses for the children that knowingly ate Scully. :kick:

Regards to all,

J
