But for real, I remember eating bologna sandwiches with a slice of cheese and miracle whip in my Grandpa's tv room. He and I would spend all day watching re-run shows like Green Acres, The Munsters, Mr. Ed, Bev. Hillbillies, Andy Griffith, Gomer Pyle, Leave it to Beaver. Oh the good ole days!

It wasn't until my teens that I discovered a remarkably hilarious show on TVland about 5:30 am in the morning. It was the Joey Bishop Show. That was about the only thing back then that could get me up at 5:30 am...

Yes, that's the same Joey Bishop that was part of the Rat Pack.

It seems most everyone has covered all the good shows so far - but I can't believe no one here has mentioned "Remember WENN" yet, the show on American Movie Classics from '96 to '98 that took place in a fictional Pittsburg radio station in 1940/41. What a wonderful "golden era" show it was, with top-notch writing, acting, and music. Sadly, it was cancelled before its time, and AMC hasn't shown it since, nor have they made any effort to get it out on DVD. If you're unfamiliar with the show, you can read more about it here.

Also, "THE LOT"

Yes, but what I found to be better was the same ganre of AMC ...."THE LOT"...which was "Silver Screen Productions" and it was a fictional Hollywood Studio bases on actual events, and people. Well , very well, done. Excellent costumes.

AMC has lost it's sparkle.

Boy are you correct on that one! AMC used to be a class channel, with UNCUT and no commericals. Now, only TCM does this, and we DON'T get that channel unless we fork out another wad of cash for the premium cable package.

Remember WENN and the "LOT" were some classy, well done, great period costumes...

If you click on some of the links to the actors who played in those, they really were (are) great Broadway talents, film stars, T.V. show characters, singers, you name it. Professional all the way.

Now you gotta watch commercials, the films are edited, and you can't VHS your favorite Old NOIR films. Plus, the film selection is much poorer. I don't know why it is called "American Movie Classics"...should be called "Average Mediocre Crap".

Soupy Sales Singing "Pachalafaka"

He used to sing this every once in a while, but I have no clue where it comes from:

Pachalafaka

Pachalafaka, pachalafaka
They whisper it all over Turkey
Pachalafaka, pachalafaka
It sounds so romantic and perky
Oh I know that phrase
Will make me thrill always
For it reminds me of you, my sweet
Just the mention of
That tender word of love
Gives my heart a jerkish Turkish beat

I won't say c'est bon
Or l'amour toujours
For they can't express what I'm feeling
Even maresydoats or
Other foreign quotes
Don't seem to be quite so appealing
But pachalafaka! Pachalafaka!
Takes me back with you to passionate desert scenes
And it's there we'll stay
Till the very day
We find out what pachalafaka means
We find out what pachalafaka means!
lol

I thought old Twilight Zone was the bomb and I am glad so many people think that too. I have gotten the DVDs, but there is a most annoying menu with an eyeball and an eight-note recurring theme. Still, I think that's my favorite old show. The only things I have liked in the past few years: Sopranos, Rome, Dexter, Carnivale.

The afterschool TV lineup of my youth:

4:00 -- Gilligan's Island
4:30 -- The Adventures of Superman
5:00 -- I Love Lucy
5:30 -- Truth Or Consequences

Although I was known to flip the dial over to the "educational channel" for Misterogers' Neighborhood if I got bored with the reruns. Meow meow big fan of Henrietta Pussycat meow meow.

As for evening shows, well, I absolutely lived for "Flipper." When I was in the hospital having my tonsils out, I got into a terrible fight with one of the other kids in the ward who thought "that fish show" was stupid. Some people just didn't understand.

My family watched I Love Lucy religiously. I personally enjoyed that, plus:

Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows
Milton Berle Show, called Texaco Star Theatre
The Long Ranger
Superman
Disney Show (can't remember what it was called)
The Ernie Kovaks Show
Carol Burnette Show
Mary Tyler Moore Show
Old Saturday Night Live with original cast

And, later on, various specials, including Roots, Holocaust, Cosmos, and most any of the Ken Burns specials

I like Digging For Truth, now, neat archeology and neat, neat hat!
