Where to find other retro singles?

I completely agree with you. I looked for 'lookers' for far too long. I've decided that it's time to really scope these girls out a bit better before I go putting myself out there all over a pretty face. I hate myself for doing that, and found a great gal, even though we're just friends, that actually will help me do chores, work on the cars, etc. She's good looking, but many people would have an issue that she's a bigger gal. But you got to expect that from a gal that actually works her behind off on the farm, right?

My feeling with the whole dating thing is a bit weird anymore. Now when I date someone, I imagine myself 30+ years from now ... maybe fat, balding, wrinkly, going blind lol . Then I think of her at the same age. Can I possibly see us still interested in each other, having endearing conversations, holding hands on the porch swing?

To hell with beauty and sex and all that other fleeting stuff that is so common to those dwelling in their youthful indiscretions. What of the future? I want to be comfortable in love. I want to have that pitter-patter and warmth that comes from waking up every morning and falling head over heels for her all over again.

Beauty fades all too quickly. I'd much rather have a stimulating intellect and a caring heart to come home to.

Am I being too romantically mushy? Probably. And I realize its probably not realistic either. The woman I'm looking for (who's probably looking for me too!) is also someone I'm unlikely to meet.

you forgot that part... ;)

Which is why I'm a bit leery of replying to PMs of people who don't have a photo of themselves in their avatar. Not to be shallow, but I KNOW that you are not Bogie/Marilyn/Grant (not trying to call anyone out).....I put MY picture up, can't you do the same?
Pretty please?:D

I believe it was suggested earlier in this thread but there is a Fedora Lounge group on Facebook. How come more of us singles aren't on there chatting with each other? ;)

My feeling about women my age: I'd love to meet one, but would prefer she not have any kids. And damn few that don't have children have any interest in men.

I know several women who don't have kids. The only one who isn't interested in men is a lesbian.

Good question! I think the last time I was on the Fedora Lounge's Facebook page, the joint was pretty dead, if you get my drift. ;)

Be careful what you wish for... oh well, by request, look to the left of this post, even though you'll be sick of it as soon as you see this post. Sorry, but "channeling St. Douglas of Bataan" is the only decent shot of me there is...

The Fedora Lounge Facebook site is definitely nothing to be compared to this, the real Fedora Lounge...and it was never meant to be anything comparable. However, it is a very good way to look up fellow FL members and begin some social networking. Most of my FL friends communicate with me by email or by Facebook messages, but we do not substitute the Facebook site for this one.

Lol I was waiting for that!
Waiting for what? The Tomcat was part of a Top Gun-inspired profile makeover when I came back to the Lounge after a while away... hence the "Maverick's reengaging" reference, since I've sometimes come off as our own version of Pete Mitchell. (Well, with the admin chewout:eek: and hotshot streak, but without the heart of the pretty gal all atwitter:( ...)

You looks good DB!
Thanks--that's been my Halloween costume for several years running, only difference between it and everyday is the stars and pipe moving out of one of my A-2's inside pockets and into "proper positions", and the shave--I look "professional", but usually don't put a lot of effort into eliminating the stubble for just everyday. Kinda goin' for the "shaved with saltwater, fresh off of PT-41" look...

Perhaps a MySpace "FL Singles" group might be a possibility... I've looked into joining Facebook, but they want too much personal info displayed in the public-profile for my comfort. (Trust me, when you have a bullseye on your back from a lady former-friend's stalker ex, it gives you a very good reason to be a little paranoid...)

I think you're likely to find someone who is similar to you. Look at most happy couples--they tend to be of similar age, good looks, socioeconomic background, education level, tastes, etc. A couch potato who's looking for someone athletic, a blue-collar gal looking to marry into wealth, and someone who wants the ego boost of a sweetie half their age or twice their good looks are wasting their time. They're in for a long and possibly fruitless search--and they're overlooking people they'd be a lot happier with.

As to where to find singles, a lot of people meet each other at swing dances. Your FL friends might be able to hook you up, to. I introduced a FLer to an acquaintance in a chance meeting, and they've been together ever since.

Well, I am 42, never married, and in the lsat few years, have been thinking about having kids someday. So, while I do not draw the line anywhere, i lean more towards women a bit younger than me, so that by the time i am married, if i want to have kids, it is a possibility. Seems like a reasonable position.

I see nothing wrong with that, reetpleat.

I think maybe there needs to be a bit of a movement to get the Facebook Group going at a better clip. I just up and joined, I didn't even know it was out there!

Hahahaha!

Seriously, though, the whole dating scene scares me to death. After a ten-year marriage, I'm not looking forward to it. I think you get in a certain comfort zone and forget about all those feelings that accompany the whole dating thing. For example, I am not looking forward to the, "Will he call?" scenario. In college, I had too many experiences of the guy saying, "I'll give you a call" and he never did.

Of course, hopefully I'll be dating more mature guys. :D

I see it differently- it should be more exciting, truthful and heartfelt 10 yrs later. One if the the beautiful things of getting older and growing into your adult self is that I am past all that nonsense. I know who I am and what I want out of life, love and all of that and I have no problem revealing my emotions.

Don't get me wrong though, I respect the dance: the painstaking manner in which two people orbit, each one has their part to play; man and woman.
