TWD. It takes a backstory and character development episode to restore a modicum of quality to the show...but then they screw the pooch when they can't come up with better writing than that to kill a one-off character, particularly when this guy is painted to be a highly successful post-apocalypse guru. He couldn't protect himself in that situation? Bitten in the back? It caused me to remember the idiotic van falling scenario. What a half-assed program it has become. Episode after episode, these slow-moving, noisy creatures pop out from behind trees and surprise characters. Or they suddenly can move at lightening speed, like a snake strike, when hand-to-hand. MAKE SOME SENSE, PLEASE. Please. And then shows like Fargo, that are operating at several Xs higher quality than TWD, continue to experience dwindling viewership. I don't understand.

I absolutely HATED the Morgan backstory episode which upset me greatly because I think Lennie James is a great actor and the character of Morgan started off strong. I had high hopes for Mogan on TWD but I feel as if we've reached a point where the show has jumped the shark.
All this phony viewer manipulation regarding Glenn's death is more annoying than dramatic.

My wife and son are still enjoying the show so I've tried (unsuccessfully) to keep my growing loathing for the show at bay..

I agree with you on most points. I too feel manipulated, whip-sawed and betrayed by this show. Still, while it's not on the level of "Fargo" it's not exactly "Baywatch" either. TWD has produced some superior television at times... just not lately.

Worf
You've hit the nail on the head my friend!! AMC has this blazing hot hit on it's hands and I believe are choosing to manipulate the viewers with these horribly drawn out plot lines in order to drag out the seasons. I haven't felt this cheated since that Twilight Zone rip-off they called Lost.

I'm glad you brought up this Glenn manipulation. If he had really been killed off, the actor would have been on the pointless aftershow (every actor of a significant character kill-off ends up on the aftershow), and the host Chris Hardwick wouldn't commit to saying he was dead, either.* The moment Glenn shows up on screen again, I'm turning my back and walking away. No threats. A promise. For my viewing investment, it will represent the ultimate type of betrayal and insult to an audience. Contract null and void.

*I watch the aftershow for the crew interviews and technical spots. Takes me all of five minutes to watch the Talking Dead hour.

I don't agree with you on his acting level (didn't care much for Lennie James in Low Winter Sun, either), and I thought it was the only good episode of this part of the season (can anyone remember or keep up with which season is which with how AMC splits their shows?). I have to always consult IMDB to confirm what is what.

I agree if and when Glenn shows up alive I will be completely disenfranchised with the show. I am currently mostly disenfranchised. Lazy writing simply to fill a season is disgusting. I am calling the arrival at Terminus as the high point in the show. The remaining seasons will be all one derivative downhill slide.

As for Talking Dead, Hardwick comes off as too fawning a shill for my tastes. We know so and so didn't actually die, don't treat us like idiots who need grief counseling..
With regards to guests I cannot suffer through any more of Scott Gimple's pretentious mumblings. Any episode with him or Hurd feels like a being called to the principal's office.

Boy, I'm glad I don't watch TWD anymore. :D I got bored with it two seasons ago.
I don't blame you. Were it not for my wife and son I would have given up when they started cheating the viewers during the season spent on Hershel's farm.

He's the worst. He's the most pretentious blowhard I've seen on TV in a long time. For anyone who found Matthew Weiner (Mad Men) a pretentious interview (I rarely thought he was, but I know plenty did), they should check out a discussion with Gimple. He thinks he's curing cancer or proving String Theory...or a good writer. "Hey, buddy. Enough of the stock tricks. Enough of the cliches. And nobody cares about Deanna and her coming to truth. It's not profound. It isn't interesting. You aren't a philosopher."

So bummed that The IT Crowd has only four seasons, six episodes each. I have one episode left to watch. I may have to buy these on DVD in case they disappear from NetFlix in the near future.

Since moving to Indianapolis, I've been watching a lot of AntTV (Antenna TV), which features classic syndicated programming (mostly Network TV sitcoms) from the '50s through the '80s and '90s. Good stuff, and best of all, it's free.

I happily stumbled upon it a few years back and watch it quite often. I thought we had lost it recently, but they (Comcast/xfinity/The Devil) had just relocated it for us.

Workaholics in the wardroom again, this time the episode where they make jerky.

And looking forward to catching up on some shows, like The Walking Dead, when I'm home for a week's leave starting tomorrow.

Good thing there are no spoilers in here...

Fargo is so, so good this season. It was nice to see Jeff Clarke (Howard Dawes, Mad Men) for a few moments. They're getting good mileage out of Billy Thorpe's "Children of the Sun"

Started watching on DVD and we're loving it. We're now up to Season 3.
So much smoking and drinking and cavorting! It's amazing anyone lived to be 50. Loving it, as I said.

I would encourage you to read this blog. More specifically, I would encourage you to read the conversations that are below each episode review. Some of them were lost in a crash, but most are there. I started reading it almost from the beginning, and years later, at the end, I was still blown away by how much detail and history was shared in those user conversations. Not a single stone or fiber was left unturned by the user group there. You can enjoy the show without them, but I found all that richness and information enhanced my experience and appreciation of the show several Xs more. The show was dense with nuance and creativity beyond what any one person could notice on their own. http://www.lippsisters.com/category/mad-men/
