The broadcast premiere of Stanley Kubrick's "lost" first feature Fear and Desire, last night on TCM.

Kubrick kept it out of circulation during his lifetime, considering it embarrassingly amateurish. And it wasn't exactly good, just interesting: a bizarre existentialist war movie taking place in an unspecified conflict between vaguely American and German opponents (judging by their uniforms). It was (poorly) written by playwright Howard Sackler (The Great White Hope) and featured an especially overwrought performance by acting-in-his-first-film-and-later-a-noted-director-himself Paul Mazursky as a shell-shocked private.

Only recommended for dedicated Kubrick fans.

I watched Tintin again last night, and I just can't shake the feeling I get with the character that was obviously modeled to look like Steven Spielberg. Has anyone else seen this and feel the same way? It's distracting and seems so egotistical, that I almost shut it off last night lol
