What jacket is this? I must find one!

Can anybody spot what this jacket might be? I’ve gotten kind of obsessed about finding (even making someday) one just like it. It’s just so cool. I think the popped collar definitely sells it. It looks like a teacore effect on some slightly heavy leather. Picture is from ‘82 so and it looks decades old already. Any thoughts?

It's a straight zip CHP of some flavour isn't it? You can see the badge holder.

Someone will be asking shortly and probably tell you the exact manufacturer.
Even just that direction helps me out a lot and I do now see the signs of it being a CHP-type jacket. Thank you!

Though I support them offering that collection, I’m less impressed with those particular ones. I give them a solid B for effort!

There was a thread round here about it when it came out. It's very much an "inspired by" collection that nods to Springsteen's jackets in the film, but produces the current equivalents rather than a period-accurate repro. Doubtless that's because Schott knows what they're confident they can sell, and most 70s styles if accurate to the early 70s won't sell in the kind of numbers they want.

The on in the OP is definitely a CHP style of some sort. CAL-Leathers definitely made something like this back when, though their current range is all lancer-fronts. (I do very much like the look of their repop of the jacket they designed for the LAPD in 1945, but seriously spendy.....).

Thanks for pointing me in the direction of that Springsteen/schott thread. I agree with your assessment too.

It’s funny how I can become obsessed with a photo of a particular jacket (or pants, shirt, etc) and want something that exactly recreates the drape but I’m sure from any other angle at any other moment, said article might not look like anything so special. Anyway, I want to find or make my own jacket that has all those elements and I enjoy the challenge of working backwards from that one image!

What kind of leather is that? How would I recreate it with new leather? What size jacket is that on him in that photo? Looks tight at the waist—is he even able to zip it up all the way I wonder? Maybe not. My favorite jacket is that way, I can’t zip it! Regardless, style is elusive and fleeting but oh so alluring.

That's what it's all about! Particularly in still photos (like movie publicity shots), but also even in some scenes in motion folks in front of the camera are often wearing stuff that doesn't fit so well in reality... IIRC, for the 'standing around, looking cool' shots a lot of the time Daniel Craig's Bond was wearing suits a size smaller than they had him in for scenes where he actually had to do anything particularly active, like jump, run, sit down or stand up quickly...

That's a Grais jacket, I have one for sale size 44/46
Oooh, I like specific names! Can you some pictures? I’m somewhere between a 36-38 but I’d love to see yours.

Edit: I’ve discovered through some forum sleuthing that it’s likely a Grais Flightmaster!

I’m fascinated by movie costumes and how their fit is translated to the screen!

That's a new brand to me. What are the key markers - the cuffs and the angle of the chest pocket?
This is from a fellow member’s classified ad. Nearly the same jacket.

Case in point, the jacket looks basic and not extraordinary… until it’s put on with style.
