Pulteney was one of my top two favourite distillery visits. It was late afternoon of a grey October day. We were the only visitors and we chatted for a long time with the two hosts like we were long lost friends or cousins. She pulled out a discontinued 17 year old for us to sample. I also liked it as it was in an old warehouse district on the edge of town (Wick) and it had a decidedly working class presentation......my bias. Drove past it the first time as we missed the small unpretentious signage above the door.

Dumped the rest of a Glen Allachie 2008 vintage and of an Old Pulteny 17yo in two nice Blueberry Cobblers last night, the Allachie won the contest…

I have but a few drams of my Old Pulteney 17 left....they have dropped it from their offering but I think our liquor outlet has a few bottles left.....return to the tried and true or venture outward to something untried.....choices, choices!

Grabbed a bottle of that 17 from the shelf at the booze shop when I read it would be discontinued. Quite good as a stand-alone, less good as a mixer imho, though a nice drop anyway.

Got some few drops of this one yesterday. Ciders (Pears an Apples), mead and a little Sauternes on the nose, slightly boozy.
Bags of green pears and Granny Smith on the palate, barley sweetness and a good portion of beeswax and honey, indeed just quite Clynelishy, already slightly waxy texture. Certainly a good impact of active wood around, Barrique/European oak.
Finish on the above impressions at medium length.

Shows quite potential, a little water and air do good work for the first.

I enjoyed several 18 yr old Sherry Speysides thru the Nov - Dec holiday season. Now it's back to smoky, peaty Islay's.
If/when this Covid thing settles down our first trip will be back to Scotland. We skipped Islay last time as we decided we could not do/see everything. So with this next trip we plan to stay a while on Islay and immerse ourselves in exploring the peated malts. I just wish it would be soon.

I sprung for a bottle of 12 year Glenfarkus to take to my ex boss for an evening of sampling. What a marvelous dram. Super smooth with still tons of character. I left him the bottle now I have to go grab another.
