Echter Rockel Velour, possibly later 1920s. This is an early Rockel Alsfeld Velour. I found this Velour back in 2021.

Joe The Hatter - 144 Rogers Ave
Dark Tan Lightweight Felt
4 1/2 crown as shaped (about 5 1/2 open)
1 5/8 Faded grosgrain ribbon
2 1/4 raw edge brim

Here is the second hat from the hat roulette box. This one is in fact the one that held the most interest for me. But only for a whimsical coincidental connection to me. “Designed and Created” by Joe The Hatter of Brooklyn, NY. OK… so the hat was sold at a store with the same name as me. In addition, the store just so happened to be located at 144 Rogers Ave. As some are aware I once upon a time wrestled professionally as Blare Rogers… “grandson of Nature Boy Buddy Rogers”. So That’s the silly little connection for me and this hat… Joe The Hatter on Rogers Ave. It doesn’t however completely end there though… on the same day I bought this hat, I also came across the most unique piece of Nature Boy Buddy Rogers memorabilia I have seen to date. A Pennsylvania Railroad Good Luck Token commemorating (Na)“TURE BOY BUDDY ROGERS vs KATO”. I believe I was able to match it up with their October 6, 1954 match in Lancaster, PA 10/06 when Buddy Rogers beat Oyama Kato. I knew this would be the perfect adornment for this hat!

The hat has a nice boxy crown and a bunch of character with its sun faded ribbon. I did manage to find under the sweat a dried up and discolored 1950s HCA standardized tag so any mystery is solved on the actual maker even if it oddly was located near the front of the hat. It is unfortunately a bit too large for me. But was easily remedied with a couple felt strips behind the sweat. I originally planned on attaching the token right on to the bow keep but it kinda gives off a hint of “sheriff badge” vibe that way. I found though the token slips nicely behind the ribbon for now. I may attach it more permanently… but I can’t decide if it looks better positioned to the front part of the bow or to the middle/rear of the bow keep. This one I can see being a regular knock around hat for me.

Tough call but the Wehrmeier wins it by a hair over both Hückels.
