Sunday 11th May: the Fifth Annual Grand Flaneur Walk with The Chap. Boater weather!

View attachment 703708

Before the off, at the entrance to the Piccadilly arcade. Fabulous day, as ever. Gustav (Temple, the Editor of the Chap) has taken on board my badgering for an Autumn Flaneur as well, so hopefully we'll have a chance to parade in our colder season finery in late November.
Great photo Edward, you must keep me posted on the Autumn Walk. My lady's recovery from surgery prevented us from joining this year's soiree.

Yep I love it. They are now on the hunt for proper midnight blue beaver for a homburg in the Anthony Eden style. Not sure if such colour exists but here is hoping.

I need a tall crown so custom is generally necessary and to balance that I tend to have a broader brim and wider ribbon.

Dobbs Hemp Rosebud in Cognac. It has earned its position, coveted by my other hats, as my official go-to beach hat. Now it has a sweat-stained ribbon, sunscreen stained sweatband, a completely faded-out center logo sticker, and a little wavy area developing in the brim, but it's a tough one. It really has taken a beating, been splashed by waves, stayed on my head in high winds and boat rides, and has even endured a couple of pop up rain showers. It shapes right back up and hits the beach again another day. It'll probably be on somebody else's head one day at the beach when I'm gone.

Coffee hat of the day is the new 3x Long Oval Open Road. One of my few Cattlemans Crease. For an inexpensive ebay hat, Ive been thrilled with the condition and fit of this one. Fun to find one with the original store price tag still there.

Nice find Rick ! I love those embroidered liners...
As far as I can figure out The store it came from (Barrys Dept Store In Killeen Tx) was closed in the late 60s. (a rather upscale store for that town Near Ft Hood). Cool to have the store sweatband embossing and price tag .To have the Texas origination... to my family's hometown of Cookeville, Tn, and now back to me in Texas again is a cool trip.

Always makes me wonder about a hats history. Im supposing it was bought by a soldier from Cookeville that was stationed at Ft Hood during Vietnam era, and then took it home. Lots of 1st Cav Helicopter pilots from Ft Hood flew in Viet Nam. Considering army pay back then and a $16.95 price tag, Im assuming an Officer or Warrant Officer that bought it. With its wonderful condition, Im hoping he just took it home and never wore it ..... and that he did actually make it back from Nam and not just had his things shipped home.

It's Whippet Wednesday down here @ Rock Bottom & I'm sporting my latest addition today. Odd how this hat collecting goes...for the longest time I couldn't find a Whippet in my size but here lately I've been lucky to have found several !!
