It really depends on what your space availability is like, and what kind of set-up you're looking for. The other issue, of course, is what's available in our part(s) of the world, may not be available in yours. (Or may be prohibitively expensive with shipping.) Another option that I use, although not to the same extent, is a "closet organizer" (in quotes, because that's how they're usually listed on sales sites).
You can also get creative and mount hooks purchased from hardware stores or antiques sites, on a wooden "plaque" available from arts and crafts sites. These have several advantages: you can use them horizontally or vertically, you can get as fancy as you like with the hooks you choose, and you can paint the base plaque whatever color pleases you.
