This afternoon I'm piddling around the house in this Courtney Five Star fedora with controlled brim. The felt is soft and dense yet molds easily by hand.
With a 2-1/2 inch brim with wide brim binding and 1-3/4 inch grosgrain ribbon hatband this hat has that Whippet look to it in my opinion. View attachment 681650 View attachment 681651 View attachment 681652 View attachment 681653
Another absolute winner, Timmy, as well as another brand I wasn't familiar with.

Interesting. The "Controlled Brim" is a Dalton patent. They put a little rubber tube in the brim edge. The ones I have look sort of look like a Cavanagh edge treatment. I've never seen one with a bound brim. Not that I've seen many at all.

I posted this on the Akubra page, but it might get more views from interested people here.

Akubra have a deal going on their homepage right now. Buy two hats and apply the code VDAY_SHIPPING at checkout to get free shipping. I chucked a couple of hats in my cart, applied the code to confirm that yes, it does apply to international shipping. Etsuko and I have hats on order from Robert at Wolfbrae, so, once again I’ve come across a great deal that I won’t be able to take advantage of, but I’m sure some of you will enjoy it. It lasts until midnight of Sunday the 16th (Australian time).

I was just going by the stamp on the sweatband. It appears to give a Patent # but I can't make it out, even with a magnifying glass.

Jeez—and I want to know more about that leather jacket! Looks like an amazing trip, Nathan. Give a shout if you’re passing through NYC on the way home.
Thanks David! I flew Tokyo to Atlanta, but I'd love to meet up next time I'm in your area. Which borough are you? I definitely want to get back to Manhattan sooner rather than later.

The jacket in the photos is a vintage Schott made exclusively for the Japanese market. Model number T101. I believe the leather is their naked cowhide (feels similar to my 184sm). It is very supple with a nice drape, but also feels sturdy - though I have yet to test it under adverse conditions (and might not do so for some time since I am finally home with my small but beloved Lost Worlds collection...)

Etsuko and I got Samurai jeans for each other for Christmas last year. I was wearing mine today, but they don’t appear in the photos. Hornskov Rancher. Still wearing the Schott cross zip at every opportunity. Since I can only wear it on weekends, it’s taking some time to wear it in. View attachment 681365 View attachment 681366

I am absolutely loving my Samurai jeans. Glad I got two pair! Wear yours in good health Gary!

I'm in Queens but work in Manhattan. Definitely let me know if you're going to be in town--can meet you wherever. That jacket looks great. I admire a lot of the jackets I see on the other side of the lounge but haven't taken the plunge--probably just want to avoid any "Indy" associations. Cheers
