Same getup as last week, but with my Strat this time.

We went back to the Taiwanese place for lunch. There are so many things on the menu we want to try. As per last week, the size of this lunch meant neither Etsuko, nor I required dinner tonight.

I hold a particular fondness for Panama hats. In my modest collection, I keep various designs differing in shape and brim width, all well suited to the tropical climate of my region. My felt hats, on the other hand, I reserve for milder weather or, on occasion, for evening events — a slight departure from traditional etiquette.

My acquaintance with this craft led me to explore the Ecuadorian tradition, where the art of Panama hat weaving first took root. For quite some time, I sought an ultrafine specimen (WPI 32–42), prized for its rarity and value. Through conversations with artisans, however, I discovered that Colombia likewise preserves this practice, maintaining both the technique and the Ecuadorian materials, owing to a fascinating cultural exchange in the border regions.

Within Colombia, two principal centres stand out: the archipelago of San Andrés, Providencia and Santa Catalina, and the Palmira area in Valle del Cauca. Though initially sceptical, I was pleasantly surprised upon acquiring my first Colombian hat — an extrafine piece (WPI 18–26) — comparable to the finest examples from Ecuador. It is worth noting that the same discerning eye one applies to Ecuadorian hats is equally essential when selecting a Colombian one.

The highlight of my journey was ultimately the acquisition of a splendid ultrafine Colombian hat, which I now wear with great satisfaction in this photograph.

Such a fine write up, unfortunate that I can't see the photo. Maybe you could attach the photo instead of linking it to an outside source?

I'm in Queens but work in Manhattan. Definitely let me know if you're going to be in town--can meet you wherever. That jacket looks great. I admire a lot of the jackets I see on the other side of the lounge but haven't taken the plunge--probably just want to avoid any "Indy" associations. Cheers

I stopped worrying about Indy associations. I believe our culture has moved past it and we have realized there are greater depths to be plumbed in early 20th Century fashion.

Here is my wardrobe today. Knox 20 (2-3/8 brim) atop two selvedge denim pieces, shawl collar sweater and a horsehide A-2. Looks a bit Indy maybe but I don't feel awkward in it at all.

Photos are a little odd perhaps. I'm still sorting out how/where/when to take full torso shots (and I need a phone upgrade as well!).

First off, this entire outfit is incredible.
Second, I didn’t realise I’d chosen a username so close to an existing and established forum member.
If my username steps on your toes in any way I’ll certainly change it as soon as the settings allow

Thank you for the compliment and please do not change your user name. I'm glad to not be the only lost one around here anymore ;D.

Welcome to the Lounge!
