Ottmar Reich "Insuperable" "Asa" possibly earlier 1900s and a recent arrival.

Today's errands will be completed wearing the fourth hat from my score on Monday. It's a grey, 1940s-vintage Champ, with a 2.75” bound-edge brim, a 4.75” crown, and a 1.75” pug ribbon. I was unfamiliar with the word coney, until researching the headband embossing. I like this one a LOT!

Thanks for that. Do you have the book or the PDF version?
No books, but way too many berets thanks to Daan and his extensive collection. The private label Aotearoa are made by the Boneteria Auloronesa - these are very high quality French made berets. I have some Spanish and Japanese made boinas from Flamingo which I like also though they wear and feel different from the Basque variety. They are great hats for everyday wear and especially for travel.

My wife's neighbor was a Japanese landscape designer who emigrated from Japan in the early 20th century. I don't remember seeing him outside without a beret on his head. My grandfather and his relatives of that generation were beret wearers too.

Added a bit of color today... Blue Stetson Sovereign. Got a couple wavy spots in the brim to smooth out, and think Im going to have to change out the ribbon for some grosgrain. This year Ive strayed away from black , grey, and silver hats a bit. Found some interesting browns, blues, and some nice contrasting ribbons and edge bindings
