What Hat Are You Wearing Today ?

Sunday chasing the sunrise to get started with escapades found me sport'n a Monson blue felted fedora with a gill ribbon treatment. This has an excellent felt. The tall crown height of the felt allows me to crease it in order to hide the 50's "popular" tapered crown.

Back home and sipping coffee on the deck I wore a FL version of the Akubra CD (it has a 2.5" brim). Terrific hat. I struggle with the ribbon ends as they get distorted quickly.

Check it out rain drops! Let it rain, let it pour.

I removed the liner on this hat as when I get to working while wearing it the plastic tip of the liner would collect condensation and drip on my bald head. The liner protected the inside felt so well it spills all humidity back onto me. Winter snow removal is the worst as the water on my head cools quickly and gives me the chills. Hence - no liner for me.

No time like the present to move some mulch. The needed rain has me changing to a Tilley hat.

Cheers to all, Eric -

I really like how that came out Brent. I am thinking you said the hat color was natural, but not sure if I remember correctly. Also, what color ribbon? In the pics, the ribbon looks lighter than the hat. I like that look.

Thanks.
Michael said the ribbon and binding color is called sand. It’s definitely a lot lighter than the natural nutria. It achieved the vintage look I was after.

Great lineup this week. Good to see the straws making an appearance. Lovely pug on the penumbra. The Heinrich is feisty in making its case among some stiff competition
Thanks, Joe.

Wow, you brought your A-game with this set, Stefan. Love those Panama's.
Thank you, Randy. Finally some straw weather here.

View attachment 341139 View attachment 341140 View attachment 341141 I'm going to try this again. Yesterday I tried to post some photos of a vintage Borsalino homburg I recently acquired. Here are the pics. Hopefully everyone can see them. :)
Very nice. Unusual for a Borsalino homburg to have thin brim binding like that. Great colour as well.

One of your finest, Brent. That ribbon just works so well with that felt.

A little fun hat, Biltmore straw this Sunday afternoon.

Looking sharp, Reggie.

Oh my! What a show. Lots of good stuff there, Stefan!
Thank you, Reggie.

A long weekend for us spent away from home so same hats as yesterday. I bought this Akubra Capricorn thinking it would be great for the rainy season. So far, it has surpassed my expectations. Two days in a row, the forecast was for rain and two days in a row, this hat has kept it away! Not a drop to be seen!

Janyška "Praga" possibly late 1930s early 1940s. This hat is from my 2016 NOS Czech find. Janyška & Cie. was started in the 1920s in Valašské Meziříčí – Krásno about 25 km from Nový Jičín (JHS, AP, BB). Janyška & Cie. was a Czech Hat company based on Austrian Hat making tradition. After World War II, the company worked for a while, but after nationalizing in 1945 , it was then transferred to Tonak together with other Novojičín (JHS, BB, AP) factories in December 1946 . In 1961 , the factory in Valašské Meziříčí – Krásno was closed.

Very nice, Steve. I think of hat-factories as staying in business for over a hundred years, but forget that many never made it that far.

Mostly Greeley hat works buckskin beaver top hat over the weekend, with appearances by Texas Hatters Cuenca bowler, and the cap they gave me from one of the places I stayed. Someone in the coop was wearing her feathery monstrosity as well!

Yet another great week of hats, Stefan. Some super straws and pugs. Glad to see you've got the same summer weather as we have in Denmark. Long may it last :)

Some great looking jackets, shirts, ties, and pocket squares, too.

This week in hats.

I wore a vintage Stetson Beachcomer for my first club outing since a year ago March.

It is truly a real treat. Phil Heywood was playing pre- 40's blues and jazz. I sipped a Bent Paddle Cold Press Black Ale and ate some shrimp and grits. The music, eats and beers were outstanding. I hope this is the new normal in my neighborhood.
