Off to get foster kittens their shots. A cheap - but good looking stingy. It may be wool but it has a great shape.

Borsalino Colombo - Mogano
Velvety Velour like Texture
5 inch Crown with corded band
1 3/4 brim with double stitched over welt

A bit cooler weather here today called out for the Borsalino Columbia. What this little hat lacks in brim at 1 3/4 it makes up for in pet-ably soft velvety velour like texture in a beautiful dark chocolate brown. The crown checks in at 5 inches as shaped.

Fantastic array, Mike. I'm a sucker for a back bow, too. Those Pork Pies are truly iconic.

On the fifth day of Stingymas, my true love gave to me (or more accurately, let me have, but I digress)... Five Stingy Back Bows

Oh darn, I only have 4 of this style! Have to remedy that soon. I do have an affinity for these late 1950s slim brim hats. I like that they can be dated to the period 1955-1959. The list includes, two Lee hats, a brown Jet model and gray Smart Lee. A Stetson Royal Deluxe pork pie style, and a Mallory Aristocrat. Since all major makers produced this style in the late 50s a suitable Portis, Knox or Dobbs should not be hard to find. The five golden rings!

Thanks ET. At this time of year I mostly aim for warm and comfortable. I was both, sitting in my cold rooms and on a nice walk down the road.

Cool. Did it come with a lizard band by any chance?

Thanks,
Michael
Not by default, but those things can be added to taste.:)

I certainly don’t have so many that I can forget such a super nice Gorusgu; yellow tag, or no. :) Though that’d be a nice problem to have, Alan! @alanfgag
View attachment 290335
Here’s a dark blue, mint 40s Wormser burg that I probably won’t forget:
View attachment 290334
Dark blue homburgs? Count me in! Wonderful hat, Randall.

The history of this hat is bizarre, it was bought in a batch of junk that claimed to be antiques.
View attachment 290384 Nothing interesting, just three-hats looked noteworthy. A Panizza, a Barbisio and this Alexander Sport.
View attachment 290385
I only kept the hats, the rest were eliminated. Upon arrival, the hats had many problems: stains, moths and more.
View attachment 290386
They have been partially cleaned and placed in the box for future restorations. They remained there until yesterday, when, looking for a hat for an exchange, I found them. I spent an hour cleaning up this puzzle.
View attachment 290387 View attachment 290388 View attachment 290389 Apparently it looks like an English hat for labels, especially the one that indicates the size, but I have some doubts.
View attachment 290390 However it is a very nice heather felt with a green background color and high pastel colors, the ribbon is green and fray. The brims are flat and sewn on top. A great hat that I think was made by some very little English manufacturer.
View attachment 290391
I will try to understand, in the meantime I wish you a good day and thanks for the likes of the hat made by Penumbra.
With the Christmas season upon us, everyone seems to be in the mood for green hats. Let's not overdo it here, people!;)
A heather felt and great form; those are a lot of redeeming qualities, Daniele.

Dynamite blue homburg!

Great pics of a hat at work. Campdrafts do some of their best work in the snow at my house also.

Sharp and an excellent choice to record under.

Daniele; The green heathered hat is a puzzle. Great heathered felt in an unique hue. It is a good example of the felts available to hatters during those years.

This morning I wore a 30's fedora whose label is St. Lawrence Hat Co., Brockville, CA. I lead with the pics of the tip label and embossed leather sweat to identify the company.

DSC04720-M.jpg

This one was made in Brockville Canada. Wolthausen owned the factory from 1895 until 1930. Brock was made by the very same Wolthausen Hat Corporation.

DSC04723-M.jpg

Wolthausen Hat Corp also made Brock hats of which I have showcased a couple on this thread in the past months.

On to the hat: This St. Lawrence fedora is a light gray with a definite cool hue. The crown felt is soft and easy to crease and dent.

2445A776-0646-4A8C-BA00-4C10CCBC42C4-M.jpg

DSC04719-M.jpg

The bound edge has a bound edge with a whip stitch that shows on the top. I turned the brim like a snap brim fedora. It did not go easy and I have been considering that the hat may have been intended to be worn with the slight rolled edge up. I will start to wear the hat "turned up."

DSC04722-M.jpg

The felt and ribbon work are of excellent work. The unreeded sweatband leather is modest, durable and comfortable. I have another fedora of this hat company that uses a thicker, treated, dyed and smooth leather.

DSC04721-M.jpg

The proportions are of the stereotypical '30's felted hats. The providence definitely places it in 20-30's manufacturing.

DSC04716-M.jpg

Cheers folks. Thanks for allowing my share my St.Lawerence fedora.

Eric -
Those vintage Canadian hats are a sight to see, Eric. Truly wonderful hats and a dream find.

Another stingy today, though this one feels more 30s than 60s to me.

Looks like a fantastic felt, Randall.
That is a beauty, Bill.

I'm waiting for a bit of sunshine or at least lighter skies to be able to post some hats I recently acquired from Panos @PanosChris.
In the meantime, I'll post this fluffy, green giant of a Fléchet. It's definitely not a stingy. I'm sure I'll never dare to wear it outdoors. Well, maybe on St. Patrick's Day :)
Like it's previous owner in Oslo, I can't stop petting this one. View attachment 290576 View attachment 290577 View attachment 290578 View attachment 290579
Whoa! That's quite the hat, Steve. There's a lot to pet there.

Keep them coming, Joe!

Hey all!
My greenest hat for this festive-ish season. COVID be damned, I'm full of cheer.

Have a great day!
That velour looks great, just needs to be petted. It's the season for petting hats as well it seems.

Now there's a task for the holidays! Cool parade of hats, Mike.

I thought bird busting was done for the year. But an African grey flew out a door this afternoon. Walking around in the freezing cold for a few hours searching for a strangers bird. Oh well, I can think of worse things to do with my day.

It's usually Norwegian Blues that make the escape, Johnny; they tend to pine for the fjords;)

50s OR today, because it definitely isn't straw hat weather anymore.

Well, it gives you the chance to wear felt and leather jackets, David. Not so bad I'd say!

Today, on a warm day for the period and somewhat changeable, I chose a Borsalino for the walk to the studio
View attachment 290796
Borsalino Qualità Superiore size 6 or 59 cm. equivalent to a 7 3/8 in the US. The hat was produced before 1981 and has a very forestry "Vinca" felt and a ribbon and brim in a green to match the color of the felt
View attachment 290797
This is soft and malleable with a light weight and wearable today for the contained cold
View attachment 290798
A perfect hat for my head, because you know Borsalino sizes are always a lottery.
Thanks for your yesterday likes regarding the Alexander Sport which, upon careful examination of the brand's mold, looks like a camouflaged Barbisio.
View attachment 290799
Thanks to Frunobulax for sending me the link of the Alexander hats made in the US and I saw there is no relationship with mine.
Good Friday
It might be green (we can't all be perfect;)), but that form is is classic Borsalino.

A hat you may need gloves for, Max. Beautiful.
What do ya get when you take a Stetson Rancher & give it a pencil curl with a brim reshape? A better western. In my opinion! Gents I have a ton of catching up to do on here. So forgive me if I haven’t given you a proper thank you for the likes and comments. I have a couple pages of your top-notch-ness to go through!

I like it a lot. That cured brim edge really makes the hat, and you did a great job getting it even and smooth.

When is a stingy not really a stingy? During the later 1950s, brims started to slim down, a 2" size became quite popular. We now consider them a "stingy", but looking at the hat, it still has Fedora lines and construction. I consider a stingy one of those 1965 1 1/2 plaid "Tom Landry" hats. A prime example is this lat 1950s Dobbs Twenty. Great felt, classic lines and a Guild Edge (Cavanagh edge). Does not look like a stingy on the head, IMHO.
