Here in north-eastern Italy, we passed in four days from wearing a down jacket and warming up to have a short-sleeved shirt. The temperature had soared 15 degrees Celsius. The maximum is now between 29 and 30 degrees

The time has come to put the felt hats back in the closets and boxes equipped with mothproof to overcome the Italian summer

This is a temporary goodbye message because as some of you know, I like straw hats, but the Italian summer is too long to continue wearing the usual panama and straw hats

We will see you more frequently in late September, meanwhile this is a Sunbody shaped by NWH

I wish you a good summer and if you pass in these parts let me know, I will be happy to give you directions to Italy to see and if you will be in Verona let me know we will meet.
Ciao a tutti

My grandfather was killed in a mining blast 7 days before my father was born. So his older brother John was not only a father figure but as an immensely strong gentle giant was also his boyhood hero that could do anything. D-Day has always been a day of significance in my family and used to be worldwide. Sadly I don’t even see it noted on the calendar anymore. My father completed his tour of 35 missions as a B-17 tail gunner. He and his brother John are both hero’s of mine. So today I tip my hat to the greatest generation ever born and those who sacrificed all 75 years ago today.

A nice tip of the hat & dedication! In the last couple of yrs Honor Flights for WWII veterans to the monument in Washington DC have really picked up & well covered on local news. World News Tonight has been conducting interviews this wk of surviving D-day Veterans. I believe tonight they will be present at Normandy Beach for the 75th comemeration.

A loving tribute Yamahana.
World leaders are marking the 75th anniversary of D-Day today at a large gathering in Normandy. Macron, Trump, May etc.have been making speeches. Veterans are being honoured and those who sacrificed their lives are being thanked and remembered. Wall to wall coverage here on tv in Europe. It's definitely not forgotten over here.

Thanks for sharing the photos and story. My Dad had a safe landing at Omaha beach several months later thanks to your your Uncle John and thousands of other soldiers. We are in their debt.

I hope you get to take those shoes off soon, Doc... they don't do justice to the cap. ;^)

Good fit and nice match, Alan.
What's the history of that hat? WWII pre Czechoslovakia or just after WWII Czechoslovakia but pre Tonak?

That's a great question Steve, which I should be able to answer with some accuracy from the information provided by Steve H. This hat came from his Czech Republic find several years back. But alas, I can't find his recent post which shared some history and photos of the Kami factory, then and now. Hopefully he will weigh in. The hat is a wool mixture with somewhat spartan trim materials that seem to speak of lean times just following the war. The crest in the logo is a Czech symbol, I believe, but Czechoslovakia is not mentioned in the markings so perhaps it could have been made during the Nazi occupation?

Thanks Alan. Interesting story to be told. Whatever the story, it's a super looking hat and, as always, you rock it.
