1950s Stetson St. Regis for the challenge I gave to my students in yesterday's photography class... to recreate a 90 years old portrait...

Good afternoon on a hot and steamy day here in Minnesota. I took yesterday and today off to enjoy the start of summer. Our start has temps <90'f (<33'c) and with humidity. Not my fav weather.

I wore a VS semi-calado straw fedora for a morning dog soirre. The ribbon work is a signature VS bow and grand details.

I got a thumbs up and a comment from a couple walking the path around the lake this morning. It was nice to see faces and be free to speak to folks without standing faraway and raising my voice. A pandemic luxury I do appreciate.

Yard tasks found me switching to a Sunbody fedora. This is an excellent working warm weather hat. While the palm leaf makes a heavy hat that has me sold for wearing during hard efforts. The 2.5" brim is the one that I most frequently reach for. I soaked the hat under the hose and dipped it into the lake to have the cooler water drip over my head when working. It worked grand to keep me cool for the efforts. It dried out quickly in the 90+'f weather. I sipped a local brewed beer after my efforts.

I went out for a hardware store errand in an Ecuadorian Panama Company Supernatural Milan. While those are a lot of words this is the finest milan I have worn.

Excellent workmanship and details in this warm weather fedora. I am slowly and gently wearing the sweat to it's demise. In a couple years it will need to be replaced.

I purchased this Optimo Manhatten fedora when I was going through my brown phase of color selection. This hat has a fairly stiff brim which I prefer with a 2 3/4 inch brim. I added the feather today and will contemplate it for a while. I realize that feathers are a highly personal choice and not to the appeal to everyone. I generally switch them around or remove it completely depending on the mood I am in at the moment.

Wind. Enemy to hat guys throughout time. Firefighters, too. My brother is one.
I like the Huckel best, though they all look great. That outfit with that hat is top tier! I don’t have any reason to be in a suit very often, but enviously, you guys sure bring men folk up!
Thanks, Randall. Men in suits don't build or fix things and the world needs men who can do that! That Cavanagh looks great btw.

I'm sorry for the windblown scrape... collateral damage we face when sharing stuff with our hat friends. I can still remember every popped stitch I've caused hunting for clues behind sweatbands. As always, many thanks for your excellent photos of beautiful hats.
Thanks, Alan. This was one I saved from oblivion, but I like my hats to stay in as good a shape as possible. Hate to see such wonderful craftsmanship damaged because of my thoughtless bumbling. Looks like it's still perfectly wearable though.

Gorgeous hat. As long as you can still wear a velour, you should!

Couple o’ straws for the past few days. Montecristi ultrafino, Dobbs Milan, and Texas Hatters Cuenca bowler— my three go-to straw hats. View attachment 339890 View attachment 339891 View attachment 339892 View attachment 339893 View attachment 339894 View attachment 339895
Good looking straws, Jeff. The ultrafino wins for me.

Very nice, Bill.
