Wearing a '50s era Dobbs Fifth Avenue that I completely reworked sometime back. This hat was originally a size 7 with a 2 5/8 wide brim. The original sweat was toast and the original Copper colored ribbon couldn't be reused. I sized it up to a 7 1/4 and changed the original block profile. Needless to say, I lost brim width. It went from 2 5/8 to 2 1/2 inches, which didn't sit well with me. After putting it back together, I took it apart again, because of the 2 1/2 brim width, and bagged it away. I found it again and decided to put it back together. I found a matching ribbon and bow that someone gave me. I restyled the bow and put it on the hat. I liked the crown height and the vintage felt on this one is very nice. It also has an overwelt brim. I thought I'd give it another shot.

Ribbon and bow that I found for the hat. I had enough material on the bow and keeper to restyle it.

Restyled, and I gave it a slight upswoop:

Another outstanding job Terry !

J. Hückel´s Söhne were famous for Velour Soft Felt Hats but their Stiff Felt Hats were also very popular. This week I will feature J. Hückel´s Söhne Stiff Felt Hats.

J. Hückel'a Synove Vídeň (J. Hückel´s Söhne Wien) early 1900s. The felt is dense and has a very nice smooth finish. The weight is 149 grams. The crown has a lower profile with a wide flat brim. The brim curl is extremely tight. The liner is especially fantastic. Same with the textured sweatband.

Very cool, Steve. I'm pretty sure you're the only one who could pull that off for a week on the lounge!

Wouldn't mind seeing that one a second time, Randall.

Very nice, Perry. That ribbon shines.

Doesn't get boring, Fabio.

Good choice, Charlie. At least wearing a hat keeps your head protected.

Whoa, that's some hat. Not your everyday style, Michael. Nice one though.
Thanks Stefan. Not often I'm seen in a 4" brim. But fun once and awhile.

French week, deuxième jour.
Arlesia lords hat in brown, restored by Penumbra. A woolfelt lords hat is not very common. The hand of the felt is not as nice as a furfelt, but they sure did some pretty cool stuff with wool back then.

That's a nice looking woolie, Stefan. Great colors to it.

Very cool Michael ! I would love to find one of those some day.....
Thanks Tim. This one showed up in a Halloween bin at my favorite vintage store a couple of years back. It was well stained, but cleaned up moderately well. After looking at a few creases in it I decided I liked this one best.

Thanks,
Michael

Perfect combination for the task.

Glorious brown felt and ribbon (basting stitches included).

You always look so sharp. Thanks for pulling up the sartorial appearance on this thread.

Never sell that hat. The 3 15's are rare and glorious. Thanks for sharing such a grand hat. IMO, the dimensions are perfect for you.

The cattleman's crease looks au-natural on your head! Cheers sir!

Fun to see you post this evening sir. The Dobbs and very special t-shirt are just the cat's meow. Cheers Bill.

Best, Eric -
Thank you, Eric.
Yeppers. I see the basting threads.
Nice ribbon colour and hat, too.
Thanks, Randall. The ribbon is quite red, which I like with the brown of the hat.

Dobbs Gay Prince

View attachment 229626

Dobbs Gay Prince
Tan light weight soft felt
4 1/2 crown as bashed at highest point
3/4 self felted ribbon with whip stitched trim
2 3/4 to 2 7/8 brim with whip stitched edge binding

I think this may be 1940s vintage Dobbs Gay Prince. I love the feel of this felt... super thin and extremely moldable. When this hat arrived it had popped its brim stitching so I had to replace it. It has some staining on the liner.. but other than that fantastic shape. I don’t find too much occasion to wear this hat but I really enjoy it.

A very distinct style. Cool hat, Joe. Not as pronounced in person as one would expect, I believe.

Fabulous, Steve. The liner is indeed fantastic and a hat in a quarter size as well.
