We attended our church Christmas musical last night. Wore my Royal Scot; it is rapidly becoming a favorite!

That's a very attractive hat - how does the felt quality compare with other new hat manufacturers (say, Akubra Heritage or :eusa_doh: Stetson?)

Scott -
I have never seen an Akubra. I have handled several modern Stetsons, but never owned one. I would put the felt half a notch above the Stetson Imperial quality I have felt, and above the Christy's hat I have, but below (and with a rather large gulf) my vintage hats, my 70s? Barbisio, and modern Borsalino Beaver (and, of course, my VS custom hats). I wish my Beaver Brand felt was a little more shapeable - maybe it has too much stiffener in the brim. Also it looks to me like when it was sanded/pounced the finish was not completely even in a couple of places - but I don't think it is something that would be noticeable or show up in pictures. The quality of the construction seems very good to me. A very substantial hat -good sweatband, ribbon, etc.

Just my opinion - the Beaver Brand hats are a good deal on sale, but at the regular price I would throw in another $50 - $75 or so and go custom with one of Art's VS hats.

Silverbelly Campdraft for church this morning. I am thinking of putting an extra black ribbon from a federation on this one. It is a comfortable hat but rarely gets worn, it is just kind of bland to me. Maybe it's the light color that is too monotone...[huh]

Thanks! By coincidence, I recently happened upon an old thread showing one of Art's earlier works, and was off exploring his website.

That's a real good look for you - I don't see anything bland about it.

Sure looks nice to me - but I'm a big fan of the matching or slightly contrasting thin ribbon on silverbelly, natural and tan hats...

Let me just say that the hat looks great as is. But more importantly thanks for what you do. Cops don't get enough thanks these days for fighting the good fight everyday. Thanks

New Penman...

I got this hat on Friday, but today is the first chance I've had to take pictures. I'm gonna post some more on it in the Penman thread as soon as I dig it up. Please excuse the strung out look:rolleyes:

This weekend is rich in fine hats!

Jimmy, the whole ensemble looks very well chosen.
Indy, I like the look! Regarding the ribbon change, if you have to do it, I would suggest a darker shade of brown, in preference to black.
Mr. P, sober and elegant outfit.
GClark, that OR fits well with the corduroy collared jacket!
Rusty, I see you can wear a fatter ribbon pretty decently, too. ;)
DGuy, you are one of the FL members more deserving of the title "Champion of the Stingies".

Well done everybody! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

BTW, thank you all for the numerous comments on my latest pics.

BobC, indeed that is a stingier Whippet, brim is about 2''. I do not know if it was a factory option - if not, it was a professionally made, well done, modification.

I don't wear my silverbelly CD much either, but I still like it. It's the oldest CD I have and still the stiffest probably because I didn't crease it myself. Ron at Hatsdirect creased it for me. The others I wet and creased myself which softened them up a lot quicker. The one that gets the most wear is the gray one, but these days the whippets and the strats see the most head time of any of my hats.
