No reason except, my brother in law runs a university there in claremont and my sister in law is a headmistress... of a school guys, pipe down. I don't fly well but there's now a direct flight to LA so no excuses and they are forever visiting us. It'll be my first and possibly only time in the states so really looking forward to it, with sister in law babysitting planning to take in Vegas and San Fran maybe Joshua Tree, my wife has a graw for that. I have an old friend in San Diego, might leave him alone, might contact.
Sounds like fun. When I was younger, I didn't fly well either. A handful of Valium always made it alot more enjoyable.
Thank you for your likes and I regret not being able to answer you, but I was put KO, temporarily, from a seasonal illness

Today first day of free exit with Tirard Ragonda to continue the French series in black
161bbqc.jpg

The hat is very well finished and Tirard Freres was the first of the big French brands to close in the 50s

The felt is very malleable and "buttery" and the finishes of the first class

The brims are edged in black, in short, a black on black for a classic of elegance for occasions that are worth a dress suitable for the occasion, at least in Europe :)

Buon giovedì!
Beautiful Tirard.
It's good to see you feeling better.
A classic Matt. I know about those little imperfections, that is all you see. Just like a scratch on your car from 20 feet away. My Mallory XV has a moth crater that drives me nuts too. But you have to know...all everyone else sees is a magnificent homburg!
Thanks, Mike. Yeah... doesn't seem quite right to let those minor kinds of things bother me. Especially about a hat that's 70+ years old. If only I could look so good when I get that age!!!
I'd that's a 59 or 60, you should just send it to me so i can take your worries away! What a great Homburg!
It's a 58, Tuk. Karl has offered, too. How about I bust out the scissors and I will send you each one half? [emoji16]
Thanks Red. I too like the pockets on the coat. It's a very handy bicycling and day tripping coat with all of the pocket space. The pin came with it.

Thanks Jim. I would say not at all stiff, nor yet floppy either. I think it has to be the thinnest felt of any brim I have. Feels like it's about 1/64th inch. The crown actually feels much thicker, but also softer.

While I was out shopping today a guy asked me if I was wearing an Open Road. He had on a nice looking thin ribbon too, so I asked him if he was after saying mine was a The Dallas. He said his was a Royal Stetson. He thought that was the model name. It was in very nice shape inside and out, except that the sweatband hat dry rotted and was missing the two parts where the model might have been stamped. I think it might have been a Stratoliner, but could have been an OR too. Or something else. It as a nice fairly dark brown hat in any case, and he was wearing it with style.

Thanks all,
Michael
Very cool that you came across someone else in a classic. I've yet to do so here. Although I have run across a couple of guys wearing Art's art. It's a hoot to get an unexpected chance for enthusiastic hat talk with someone in the physical sphere.

'50's Penney's Marathon - my latest refurb. I sized it up two sizes, added a new sweat from @bond , and gave it a new-vintage wide maroon ribbon with a couple paintbrushes in the keeper.

Beautiful work blue.

Looks like I'm gonna have to cut the hat into thirds now that you've offered to take it off of my hands, too. [emoji3]

Greetings All:
Sitting on the porch awaiting the Postperson to deliver a pair of vintage Magnaplanar stereo speakers for the Marantz. Been waiting 40 years for some “Maggies”! Probably be in La La Land for a good while.
So, today it’s a Stetson Bantam. I don’t believe it’s been posted before. Kinda nice.
As always, thanks for the recent kind words.
Be well. Bowen

Fantastic Bantam.

Enjoy the tunes.
It is going to be a sunny day! A little nippy this morning, so the Lees of London c1955 will be my morning hat. This afternoon will be warm and straw weather. Probably my Lt. Blue Duplex custom...again.

Great job. Did you buy the ribbon to go with the sweater or vice versa? That looks a lot like the gray model I was wearing the other day.

Yes, it was interesting. I see a few people around town wearing fedora type hats, but not many in real classics. I did see one old fellow last summer who was wearing probably the most pristine and beautifully shaped hat I've ever seen in person. He looked like he just walked out of the pages of Apparel Arts in a blue blazer, cream linen pants, brown and white spectators, rep tie, pocket square and the beautiful golden brown fedora. I was going to strike up a conversation with him, but I had to do something for a few seconds and when I looked up he was gone. I'm still hoping to run into him again.

Great looking refurb Justin! Have you trademarked the paint brushes yet?

I'm not that kind of maker ;)

Beautiful work blue.

Thanks! And how biblical of you, wise Solomon! I would rather the hat be in one piece than sliced apart ;)

Impressive refurb Justin. That ribbon work is superb.

Thanks, gents

Actually, the matching colors are a happy accident =) I just try to avoid black ribbons on my refurbs.
