Thanks for the notes... and sorry to be absent. It is sad to see members move on from the Lounge but when you've been here for a while you experience these losses in waves that roll through again and again. Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast. We can and do keep in touch through other channels, but it is a shame to lose the knowledge, content and personalities that have made this place a destination.
+1 Hear Hear Alan. :)

This vintage Adam Executive arrived just as I was leaving for work tonight. It’s a homburg conversion by our own bond aka Scott. Colors are awesome and the work is impeccable.

Great hat Bill, I've been admiring it. Glad you bought it and took the temptation away.

I've been out of the office having to pretend to be a grown-up way too much this week. Happily, this morning is the last one. I'm wearing the blue Dobbs Fifteen for the occasion.

I hope that each of you have a fun Thursday full of great hats. View attachment 96878 View attachment 96879 View attachment 96880 View attachment 96881 View attachment 96882 View attachment 96883 View attachment 96884
If you really have to pretend at grown-upness, that's the hat to do it in.

Nathaniel, I sent it to a friend of mine so I will let you know what I receive back. I don't know where the advertisement came from but Rehfus & Cie hats were sold throughout Germany (but there was regional bias, they were from Southwest Germany, Kehl am Rhein, Baden, directly across the Rhein from Strasbourg).
Swabian German? From the Wikipedia entry:
"Swabian is difficult to understand for speakers of Standard German, not just because of its pronunciation but because it contains vocabulary that differs from Standard German. For example, "strawberry jam" in Standard German is Erdbeermarmelade while in Swabian it is Bräschdlingsgsälz"

Day with mist and sun that make the temperature pleasant at midday.
I'm ready for the photo conference tonight

Color is "Rutenio" Felt is soft and pliable

This is a very classic "homburg" in proportions with ribbon and finishes on the brim that match the color of the felt

I'm sorry I did not let these hats pass by "Post new hat here"...in the near future they will show with more details

Thanks a lot for your likes on the Borsalino heather felt
Buon Giovedì
Danielle, beautiful homburg and a really great color
Yesterday was New Hat Day, as I took delivery on a recent eBay win.

So far this morning we have a Dobbs Fifteen and a Resistol Twenty-five. I'm coming in with the low bid in this Mallory Ten. The auction photos weren't the best, and I prayed it would clean up nice, but what I received yesterday was beyond what I expected. Fantastic (and very pettable) felt, an interesting dark gray color, sharksgill bow, wind trolley, felt and sweat in great condition, what more can a guy ask for?

Gave it a good steaming and brushing before work and put a quick diamond in it.

Man, I love the smell of steamed vintage felt in the morning!

GILLS!!

Cool edge treatment. The binding is wider on the bottom than the top, resulting in this bound and stitched top edge.

I'll take better shots when I can for the Mallory thread. It was dark when I got home from work last night, and dark when I got in this morning, so I haven't even seen it in natural light yet.

I wish everybody a Youthfully Smart Thursday!

Sent directly from my mind to yours.
Excellent Mallory Jim, cool color and gills. I need a hat with a purple liner
Blue morning goodness! Vtg. Stetson Royal De Luxe Homburg.

Beauty Eric, that color alone should be treat enough to reward wearing it.

Just got home from a very enjoyable trip to visit Mike at NW Hats. Decided to wear my Echter Borsalino Homburg that came my way via my Dutch connection. :)
I'll be posting some new creations I got to try on in the NW Hats thread. I dropped off a sweet Knox Westlite for Stefan for Mike to spruce up. Needed to replace a rather ham-handed ribbon that the Etsy seller tried to pass off. Didn't come home with any hats, but next trip down hopefully. More later...

Sounds like a great trip, Red, and in a great hat.

Beautiful color on the Pheasant Michael. The cape makes the look on such a chilly day.
Thanks Red. I need to get this one out more often. I tend to forget about hats I haven't worn for awhile. The cape was very nice for today's weather.

I didn't think a brown hat could sparkle, but that one does Mike

Broke out my most recent VS tonight. I needed some dense fur for the freezing temps. The first in our area.

I don't know where the advertisement came from but Rehfus & Cie hats were sold throughout Germany (but there was regional bias, they were from Southwest Germany, Kehl am Rhein, Baden, directly across the Rhein from Strasbourg).

Here’s the most confusing bit of the ad, Mayser:

“Dauerhaftigkeit traegt vorstehende fabrikmarke in golddruck auf dem Schweissleder.”

To me this is just grammatical nonsense, but I’m a non-native speaker. This literally translates as either, “Durability carries protruding factory brand in gold print on the sweatband” or “Protruding factory brand carries durability in gold print on the sweatband.” I get what they’re saying but it seems a weird way to say it.

I was thinking the same thing Redfokker - if it’s dialect it could be Swabian. I suspect that’s not the answer but I would like to hear from a native speaker whether or not this grammar is weird to him/her.

Nice photos! One of these days i’m going to take a summer and hike through the Black Forest - that part of Germany seems very enchanting.

I placed my order with Mike a few weeks ago: navy blue Stratoliner clone. I am super excited to get home in February and find it waiting for me (I hope). It will be my first beaver felt!

As much as most of us love Christmas, regrettably also comes winter. Time to get out the fur felt. The Biltmore President felt pretty good today in 28 degrees.

That is one gorgeous Biltmore Mr. Snake. It was 28 on my deck here in Oregon this morning as well.

WHEW!! Through thick and thin, we post again! Life is complicated enough, folks....

Today my pal Marty and I after the Thursday morning (6:30am) minyan. It was MUCH better than last week!

Marty: Wool, overwelted black brim, pressed by another of the ten, who SAT on it this morning. Sprang back nicely, don't you think?
Me: my first VS, in blue steel.

Great to see you Charlie. Love the VS, blue steel, is that like a navy or charcoal?
