Well, semi-local...about an hour and a half..........we go to Cantigny several times a year. Really Love that place! Yesterday was a Military Timeline event...and concerts all day long....all was well attended!! And yes.....the Whippet was very comfortable when the sun came out and it got warmer......though I must say I like that Grand Central a LOT!!!!
Also, as we were out and about.......for some reason, we saw more men with hats than I have seen in a long time!!!! It was nice!
Cheers,
M

New (to me) vintage Charcoal Royal Stetson. This is the cleanest vintage hat I have.

Tell me more about the "Grand Central", love the color, perfect museum wear. What maker? I'll have to look up that Museum, the bronze is perfect for that hat.

Wearing my Biltmore Casa Blanca. The camera makes the hat look small or makes my head look big. Either or the hat actually looks right in person :D

The weave on that Biltmore is really nice. Is the Casa Blanca a modern?

Yes, it's a modern hat. I wanted vintage but couldn't find any I liked. The Casa Blanca's brim isn't too wide, 2 3/8. I think the crown is only 4". I wish the brim was at least 2 1/2" and the crown 4 1/2".

Looks great Bill! I like the charcoal color.

I haven't had the chance to check out the Retro. The Casa Blanca is kind of stiff. I had to steam it a bit to be able to snap the brim down. It might be the one I got, bought it off Amazon. I like because it has a leather sweatband. My Biltmore Westend has a fabric sweatband. It never fit right and the sweatband kept flipping inside-out when I would take the hat off. It drove me crazy! I do want a vintage straw one day.

I've got my eye on one of these! Based on pics I've seen, it looks like it's blocked nicer and woven tighter than the Stetson Retro / Ultrafino / generic panama c-crown.

Hat is too small for your head but the Suspenders are Awesome...

Slight irrelevant drift, but wanted to share something about UK - US English difference reminded to me by this comment. No judgment or ill intent intended, I just still find what happened mildly funny.

When I came to the UK in 1990, I had to get a tux ("dinner jacket" in UK). I went to the shop and said to the really cute girl (trying to chat her up) "I need some suspenders to go with my ahem... dinner jacket" (really proud that I got the British term right). The really cute girl starts choking and when she stop trying to strangle her laughter, kindly explained to me that in the UK (I had a strong California accent back then) "suspenders" are used by women to hold up their stockings (can't remember the US term now) and "braces" (what? Those are for teeth?!?) are what men use for holding up trousers (not "pants" as this is underwear in the UK). I tried to salvage the situation, but she turned me down for a date, but I probably gave her a good story to laugh over with her friends after.

Anyway, tomato, tomahto.. [emoji3]. Have a spiffing day chaps, wot wot.

Yes, I really love the color.....modern Stetson....color is their silver-belly though this one is MUCH more tan and has a real natural look. I have others of their hats in silver-belly and this one is much different.......great color.....and the specs on mine are different than advertised....you may wish to inquire if you order one.....mine may be a one off...........the ribbon is wide (a hair under 2") and really well done!

Yeah, the stiffness has to do with how these sub-fino hats are woven. Thicker strands plus (sometimes) finished with some lacquer and whatnot. The Bailey's I'm wearing is fairly stiff as well. The Stetson Retro is virtually the same hat as the Ultrafino Havana and Gullport Reward. I've tried them all since they are all on the rack at Village Hat Shop in San Diego. I think they all buy from the same supplier and just stamp their label to the inside crown. Anyway -- the Retro compares in stiffness to both my Bailey's and Pantropic panamas.

That being said, the stiffness of these hats doesn't really bother me too much. I think I'll have to give that Casablanca a try!
