A lot of what was considered a lesser quality hat back in the day is still better than the vast majority of modern higher quality factory produced hats.

I have an old Champ and a Penneys Marathon that apparently sold for less than a good Stetson in that time period, but they're great hats and noticeably better than my modern mass produced hats. The fit, the finish, the hand and quality of the felt... all top notch in my experience.
