Roger, Thanks! I actually got this one from Manfred. I can't recall where he found it. I mostly find mine on German Ebay but I have other sources. I have a lot of hats. :)

I'm always amazed at the quality and variety you have. It's a shame we haven't seen much of Manfred lately.

Mayser, I'll take a picture when I'm back in my workshop. It more of a midnight blue. Insanely hard to photograph though.

Yes I have a very hard time photographing old black Velours. They absorb all light. :) Here are couple other black Austrian Velours.

J. Hückel´s Söhne (JHS) Zephyr Seal Velour (late 1930s) vs. TONAK Formely Hückel Zephyr Seal Velour (late 1940s). The older JHS (on the right) absorbs more light.

When photographing a Black hat Fedora or others...Shoot against a Black background, preferably a piece of Black cloth like felt....when downloaded to your computer use your Photoshop Editing program as follows:
Under Exposure you should see Brightness, Contrast, Shadows, Highlights.....use 1 or 2 clicks of Brightness then 2 clicks of Contrast, then several clicks of Shadows negative and you should see a huge difference between the Black of the hat as opposed to the background Black....always try to avoid dark colors against White backgrounds, the White sucks up the contrast levels and distorts the pictures natural coloring...

TY Esther! It was the ribbon as much as anything else thzt made me notice it.
hatsRme, TY, but it's a Dobbs, not a Knox. I would love to get a Knox, maybe knext month. The date I mentioned was from just a little research, what I could see of the crown logo most closely resembled a pic from the liner of a hat dated 1936. The sweatband stamp also resembled ones from that time. Info was found on The Hatted Professor site, not sure of the accuracy of the researchers there.

The researcher there is our very own Brad Bowers, and his work is top notch!

TOP notch! I was only guessing based on the material, look, and feeling I got when I looked at the hat. I got a 70s vibe (my father's hats), but again, I was wrong once before...

A fuzzy stunner, Alan! Fantastically Fuzzy! And it looks like it just left Oviatt's.
