This "The Tiger Special" from Keith Brothers with it's big messy almost-back bow is about 100 years old. Maybe a few more, maybe short a couple, but still my oldest hat.

J. Hückel´s Söhne "Zephyr Seal Velour" probably late 1930s. This one was made for the American market and is in mint condition. Also very difficult to photograph.

Good Tuesday.

This Royal De Luxe Stetson is a recent lucky find. It possesses a really unusual color somewhere in between brown and gray. It varies in hue depending on lighting conditions and viewing perspective.

Have the most terrificatious Tuesday, ever.

Very lovely looking hat, Matt. Doesn't make it easier for the colourblind among us though.

I saw a buntal straw today, similar to one I saw posted here recently. I was thinking it was posted by you? Although this one has an unmarked sweat; no "u-roll-it" or Bailey mark or anything other than a size sticker hanging from the sweat. I would have paid the $10 for it, but the misses didn't like how it looked on me...like that stopped me before, hahaha!

I never run into deals like that around here. Central Ohio sucks toilet water for finding nice vintage hats, even in antique stores.

P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin "Special Qualität" with "Auto Cape". The hat was made for the P. & C. Habig Berlin store at Friedrichstrasse 82 which didn't survive WWII. I think it might be from the 1935 because "35" is last number on the paper label number sequence.

The Austrian Patent (133275) stamped on the sweatband of the above P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin Melone with the felt insert that P. & C. Habig Wien called "Auto Cape". The patent claim is to make a stiff felt hat that is resistant to denting and the felt insert being a part of the invention.

This is the Austrian Patent(133275) from 1932 and an addendum from 1936.

The inventor Adolf Sindermann has a good number of hat related patents. His company was a major supplier of felt stumpen, capelines, finished hats and probably a supplier to P. & C. Habig Wien - Berlin.

Fantastic hat. And a wonderful history and discription of the Auto Cape innovation. That "hatstory" is what it's all about.
