This is the hat I wish I was wearing today...But I must have been naughty this year, because the gift I got for Christmas was The shingles.Spend Christmas day and night in the hospital, first ever.I have it on my head my face and right eye.The bad part is I can not put on a hat it hurts my head.I now have to leave the house feeling naked.Hope everyone else is doing better than me.

Oh Jeff, I'm so sorry to here this. I had Shingles about 5 years ago, same place on my head. It was hell for a week or so. I was scheduled to take my Graduate SAT exam, kind of messed with my scores. Couldn't eat enough drugs to make it go away. When I quote Bill Clinton, I really mean it my friend..."I feel your pain".

T Jones made the suggestion that rather than converting (or making crude attempts at converting) all the western hats I've been buying to fedoras, I should try wearing some of them as westerns. I know, novel idea.
First attempt is a 6X Stetson that I took some of the curl out of the brim:
This is all new to me.

Impressive looking Western. You are a braver man than I sir. I just don't have the 'nads to pull off this look.

That is such a wonderful lid! Brim is to die for.

By golly, that is one fine looking modern RW. Love your crease job.

Hey folks!
Despite what Fruno may say, no baby seals were harmed in the making of this 50's Tonak Seal Velour.

Now, I won't even try to claim that no European Hares were harmed...
Have a great day!

Moe, the King of Green. Love the finish on this one. Those baby seals didn't give up their lives in vain.

Question on creasing. Paperwork from Hatsdirect said to bash sides first than crown. I've never done it that way, always done the crown first. Any opinions, is one way easier than the other?

Wrong order, but you know know this from all the posts trying to save you from the grief of reading the instructions.

Thanks Mike!
King of Green...has a nice ring to it. Far better than my old title of Viceroy of Puce.

If you want to try Westerns but want less of the Western look, stay away from dimensional brims & the shovel look.
I always start with a center dent in the crown first. I put the hat on, then put a toothpick behind the ribbon, right in front, in line with my nose. That helps me to get the center dent straight.
