What Hat Are You Wearing Today 1?

Stetson Flagship tops my head as I am moving some yard furniture. Guests will be invited near the water to enjoy a an early afternoon lunch. I took the picture as I was sitting and enjoying the light wind across the lake. Messy background takes some away from the pristine Stetson hat. It is, as the pic shows, a tan or buckskin color.

I "tossed" the hat into the rose bushes so I could show the interior, and clever edge binding. I do know that this is the "WHAYWT thread, but the Flagship is not seen frequently.

Manfred; Truly looking sharp. The fedora is handsome and the homburg is stately.

Ed; Oh, la, la! That is a hat! The surface looks so smooth, with subtle texture in the pic. It begs to be touched. Nice hat -hope the work mates enjoyed.

David; Classic hat for a Sunday morning. You have a chance for rain, according to the The Weather Channel, hence the hat is great choice. The in between season is upon us in the northern latitudes.

The ribbon has been made with a rougher edge. Petersham is the name for the ribbon treatment. It is this way purposefully. Check out the thread I have referenced below for excellent pics and explainations.

The three rows of stitching are just very unique. The brim edge is just darn classy and gives the hat edge a dressy look, to my eye. It is an example of the classic difference between a bound edge and a felt edge. A felt edge can be bare (cut and sanded-dressed), or a variety of welts. This older version of edge treatment is not seen often and in fact this type only in the vintage models. The 3 rows of stitching and edge treatment are a big extra step in making a hat and hence it makes it different or special for that feature.

The link should put you in the company of some very fine examples of this model. At the time of this hats creation it was a couple of bucks more expensive than the 50's Stratoliner (silverbelly) that I own. It has a couple bucks and lots more of features in my opinion. Well worth the couple of bucks!

Here is a pic showing both the Strat and the Flagship together. They are not different sized, just appears so as the depth of field varies. I took the pic to document the blocking and general look. The felt is very dfferent. A rich, thicker and velvety felt is the Flagship. The Strat is no slacker, but the Flagship is noticably different.

Yes sir. A very unique ribbon. It is not done to the ribbon, rather the ribbon was made that way. The hat is a puzzle to me. I have mused about the more dressed edge treatment and the less dressy ribbon edge. Puzzling way to make a hat - mystery of design. It is a unique ribbon edge. The bias of mine is one that the ribbon edge being smooth with uninterupted lines provide a more dressy look. That is a bias and hence subject to hopefully change.

Aviation Days

Discover Aviation Days was held at the airfield were we have our airplane.

I went out for a short visit this afternoon and checked out the Golden Wing Museum as well the fly-in planes and displays. I went alone as my wife is still entertaining friends at our home. Seeing a couple of the planes and visiting with a couple of aquaintances was something I wished to do. Out to the airport and back home quickly was my duty.

Oh yes, hatted in a 50's Stetson Stratoliner in silverbelly.

The T-6 Squad was out.

The airplane would not be as interesting without the obligatory hat pics below.

An aquaintance owns this and had it displayed.

I would love to be able to fly this on a trip.

The open cockpit planes are something I have dreamed of flying. It sounds like fun. Granted ill weather would be a real test of my love of flying, but real adventure. They all are restored to flying condition.

Manfred - funny, I have two Indiana Jones hats (the Garrison and an Adventurebilt) but I've never yet watched any of the films. I guess I just like the style of the hats
