On the way out to the antique mall, and from there to to get Thai.

I don't think I've ever seen the Hat City lid on your noggin. Just outstanding. In fact, I'd continue to gush, but I'm tongue-Thai'd...:D

(Seriously, though -- great photos of both of you. ;))

Peter: There is nothing like a Dove in the morning. Absolutely breathtaking.

St. Ignatz: That is a great shot. It looks as if you have stepped back into time.

Allen: I can tell you have an eye for the finer things in life.

AL: Stay Warm!!!!

Bart: That hat looks great on you. The shaven look makes you look younger I think. I didn't recognize you at first.

RBH: Straws in Arkansas already? I am buried in snow!
Sharp looking straw.

rlk: Now, that's a hat I would proudly wear down the streets! Nice.

buler: I could not even notice that was your first time wearing a thin ribbon. You make it look so easy. Nice look as always.

Lloyd: how is the hat, now that it dried?

BobC: You look great, and that smile tells me you feel good to.

Lefty, what color hat is that? Good blending of colors.

Mario: I don't think I have seen you with that hat before. Looks good!

Jimmy: Thanks! :)

Dan: Thank you for your candor, I appreciate it. :) I agree that the GP is a flamboyant hat that not everyone will have a fondness for. In its defense, however, I have to say that it is a bold design which was executed well in terms of high grade felt and finish. Dobbs positioned the GP as a premier hat in its lineup, which cannot be said for other makers who also produced hats which were either inspired by the GP, or were direct copies.

The GP felt, as Alan and others have commented on, is absolutely gorgeous, of a fine suede finish which is soft to touch but NOT floppy, has structure, and takes to finger shaping well. A fine, fine hat, I feel, and one which justly deserves the popularity it once enjoyed.

Lefty: Appreciate it, thank you. I will post a photo in the future which will provide some context to that yellow background...

Alan: Thanks, and I like that topper on you!

hatophile: Thank you, but I find it hard to believe that you don't already have a similar example in your splendid wardrobe[huh] BTW your Caxton looks mighty fine!

Dennis: Thanks :flame:. Alas we have another big storm upon us today :smow:

tooch: Wonderful photos and lids.

Dennis: Thanks!

Alejandro: Thank you, I really like it and its wider-brimmed brother, too.

Michael: Breathtaking! You are a lucky man to live amongst such beauty. The hat looks organic to its environs.

Mario -- is it my imagination, or has that Knox paid a visit to......THE HABERSLASHER!!!! :eeek: :eeek: :eeek:

Sit down, Jimmy - and brace yourself...! ;)

I was waiting for that question to come up ever since I posted the photo. And I was expecting YOU to ask it! :D

Yes, it paid a visit to the haberslasher (you know, I'm really proud of my word creation - it took on a life of its own ;)). I always loved that hat so much but found that there was something odd about it proportion-wise. Brim too wide for the crown. Crown too low for the brim. Either way, something didn't really work, especially in relation to my face (I always thought your green Knox Premier was much better balanced), which is why I didn't wear it in a long time. I would not have minded the brim width if the crown had been taller accordingly.

I still don't have a block and flange to get my hands real dirty and the only hatter in Germany that I know of who might be able and/or willing to do this kind of work won't take any oders by mail (meaning that I would have to drive up all the way to Hamburg, still not knowing if he would do it).

So yes, I shortened the brim to balance out the proportions (and you can believe me that I was constantly on the verge of a heart failure once I started!). At the moment it is a raw edge but the original binding will go back on soon. I can tell you: carefully unstitiching a brim binding is almost as nerve-wrecking as stitching it to the brim in the first place. It's ok with the raw edge but it will look much better with the binding in place.

Jimmy - I hope all is well with your blood pressure? :eeek: ;)
