What hat are you waiting for today?

Very understandable. Depending on size... you may be able to find something vintage that is as good or better than some of today’s ‘best’ for as little or less than some of today’s.... .... “entry level hats”

Possibly, but the uncertainties somewhat counteract that for me. For example, that first fur felt I got had a leatherette sweatband which wasn't obvious until I got my hands on it. It seems fine otherwise. It may be large enough in circumference to cut it short, and stitch a fabric sweatband over the stub, but that's a project for another time...

I have yet to discover the other potential pitfalls and things to watch out for in buying second hand, and how to identify and avoid them in advance. That learning curve has its costs too, both in cash and patience, and shopping is a tedious necessity rather than a hobby for me. I do like things with a warranty and returns policy ;) Plus not a lot seems to be circulating in 58cm here in the UK, or not at prices I'm prepared to gamble with.

Yep, still waiting. Five months and four days currently. Just for kicks I sent an e-mail to find out if they had any sort of estimate for when my hat might ship, and I received a response--maybe sometime in June, but more likely the end of July unless something else comes along to interrupt production at Akubra.
Just because I know some of you are losing sleep over what has become of the Akubra Hampton I ordered from Everything Australian back in December...

Although tracking doesn't yet reflect this, I've received word that my hat has shipped and should arrive some time within the next 15 working days. So...yippee. :D

Is DHL doing anything for you?
Brent, They were sent by the cheapest DHL Germany International Package 2 kg option (15,89 Euro + 4,00 Euro Tracking) so only 50,00 Euro insurance. The seller is upset because the address was correct but sorted wrong by DHL Germany. It shows up in China Post tracking so just have to see what happens. I made a post on the China Post forum if you want to take a look but it might cause a headache.

I am waiting on 2 hats that were sent to China by mistake by DHL Germany. Supposedly (being optimistic) China Post has forwarded them to me via boat so looking at a 3 month arrival time. :)

Oh man, I'm sorry for you, Steve! But as I wrote the other day:
A hat from the UK arrived here in Leipzig, but DHL managed
to lose the package on the last metre here within Leipzig!
The self-proclaimed "German thoroughness & punctuality" is always worth a laugh.

Matt, The seller gave it to DHL Germany on the phone. :) Very sorry about your situation. I have been very lucky up until now. I only had one lost package over the years but I think that one was seller related (maybe never sent).
