I'm waiting on an Alexander OR clone. Anybody know anything about Alexander hats?

So true....always a crapshoot when buying online. If doesn't fit me I'm sure I can find a "lounger" here who will take it off my hands.
You got it, but if it's a 7 1/4 then I'm in like Flint....it'll be a keeper. My hats tend to range 57 to 59 depending on the maker. When there is no size tag, like this one, and the seller gives me a side to side of 6.5" and a front to back of 8" (like this one is) they usually fit me pretty well. I'm really interested in seeing this one. It supposedly has a 2 3/4 brim and a 5" crown. If it’s around 7 1/4 to 7 3/8:and doesn’t fit you, give me a holler . . . .

That's a beauty, Ken. Awesome pug.Found a really sweet deal on a vintage 60's Stevens panama from south america. Love the retro feel. Hope it fits as good as it looks.
Thanks Stefan....got my fingers crossed, I'm really digging that retro look 60's straw. That's a beauty, Ken. Awesome pug.
The mixed number keyhole size tags came about in the late 1950s and continued until the very early 1960s. They were used for such a small time that you can date them more precisely than most hats.

Mixed number? 7 1/8 rather than just 1/8?The mixed number keyhole size tags came about in the late 1950s and continued until the very early 1960s. They were used for such a small time that you can date them more precisely than most hats.

Jim, there was a hat maker by the name of Alexander located in the Carolina's, I believe. Since passed.
I don't think so. The photos weren't great. I should have it in hand tomorrow.Would that be G.W. Alexander & Co. ?
Thanks Brent. I'm always looking to learn something here.Exactly. The whole number and the fraction on the keyhole shaped tag appeared in the late 1950s and were only in use a few years. Some of the non-US made hats used the keyhole tags longer and the normal dating rules don’t always apply to Stetsons made in places other than the US.
And that just about exhausts my vintage Stetson knowledge.

For your ... "amusement" ... the international travels of a genuine panama hat ...

Yup, it's beautiful. But, crap....too small. fits more like a 7 or a 7 1/8. Will post to the classifieds when I get the time. Or you can PM me, I paid 125. so whatever shipping is add that. I don't have the heart to try and stretch this vintage hat to fit my 7 1/4 head.Found a really sweet deal on a vintage 60's Stevens panama from south america. Love the retro feel. Damn, would I like to have that truck!
