I own and operate a shoe shine stand and shoe repair shop in the US Bancorp Tower in Portland, OR. "Hightower Shoeshine & Shoe Repair" If any of you are in the area, stop by, I'll give you a shine on the house if you mention the lounge. If you're from out of town, it's the largest office building in the state...and it's pink. Hard to miss.

I'm an English teacher at an Islamic high school in Bangkok, Thailand. Sometimes this job is so mentally and physically tiring. But when you see the look in the student's faces that says "Oh, now I understand", it is all worth it. On days like this it doesn't feel like work.

If you'd like, I'd be willing to forward you some of these materials via off-FL email--I'm not yet formally enrolled--$6000, the starting cost for a basic VFR license, is a little difficult to swing on my current budget and I want to make sure I can actually wrap my mind around everything required before I start bleeding cash at the airstrip.

that would be awesome, I'd appreciate it. I know a lot of pilots (fixed and rotor wing, you can imagine the mudslinging here ) and have a few books to read but it's hard when no one is around to answer questions and when you don't have the cash for proper flight school. at least in theory you can do ground school on your own and take the test but yeah the hardest part is coming up w/ money for flight time and instruction

I know she is currently, as they say in acting circles, "resting" and having the devil of a job getting back into aviation, but if you want to PM me I can pass on your details to her and she can try and put you off lol
Seriously in the current climate she is really struggling to find work and she loves flying.

I man twelve hour watches at a time and listen to radios for distress calls aka maydays. We also provide weather and other helpful broadcasts.

We're sort of like 911 operators for the water.

Its a good job, I enjoy helping others and this is about as helpful I can be without being the rescue swimmer.

I'm a primary school teacher in a beachside town and am responsible for the kiddies in their first year of school. It's a lot of fun and hard work and no day is the same. Children always keep you on their toes! We have a lot of different nationalities in the class, so we are truly a melting pot.

I know what you mean. I taught English in China and it was an amazing experience, but it took me a long time to understand and appreciate their customs and their way of doing things (and vice versa!).

My husband is Chinese though, so I must have been on the right track.
